Many people are not convinced that this Dianzeng once surpassed Song in the Rain in the comments (at least in terms of awards). Indeed, I cannot agree with the values conveyed by the story of the film. The hero and heroine both split their legs in the process of falling in love. On the surface, the male protagonist rejects all kinds of financial support from rich girls, but in fact he has been using him to solve life problems for himself, and he is still seducing the female protagonist in public when he is dating her. Even more speechless, the rich girl not only chose to forgive, but also provided him with more benefits. If this plot were put in now, the screenwriter would have been scolded as a straight man in the late stage of cancer. What's even more speechless is the heroine, who is directly derailed (at least the hero has an ambiguous relationship with the rich girl). No matter how innocent she is, or how beautifully she dances, I can't have a good impression of her. And if the protagonist of a movie (especially a romantic movie) cannot make the audience feel good about him and form empathy. The consequences are catastrophic!
However, the reason why this film can become a classic and win an Oscar must have its uniqueness.
In fact, if you look closely, this film is different from general romance films when dealing with the main plot (the love line of the male and female protagonists).
The film begins with a large introduction to the three main male characters. And cleverly used the monologue and the relationship between the two of them to draw out each character in turn, and introduced the beautiful Paris where the film took place. It also sets the tone for the film through the singing and dancing clips of the trio discussing jazz and classical music. It can be said that after watching the beginning, it is difficult for the audience not to have a happy mood.
It is followed by a scene where the male protagonist sells paintings on the street. At first, a beautiful woman came over and had an interesting dialogue with the male protagonist. Generally speaking, this woman should be the heroine of the film. Who knew that the male protagonist smashed her away with one sentence. At this time, a wealthy girl came, and she greeted the hero for a while and wanted to buy his paintings. The audience at this time can basically be sure that she is the heroine, because everything is reasonable, and the film has been progressing for a long time at this time. But who knows, in the later dating scene, the heroine really shows up, it is the little girlfriend of the French musician. At this point, the main love line really unfolds.
Therefore, we found that the entire film's description of the love between the two is not as full as the general love film. And this is also interspersed with the fantasy play of the performer and the performance of the French singer. It can be said that this has alleviated the audience's resistance to the love between the two to a certain extent. But the film basically did not describe the love between the heroine and the French singer. This made it seem abrupt and illogical for the singer to let go at the end. Apparently, eavesdropping on the scene from the windowsill is not enough to explain the character's motives.
Fortunately, the singing and dancing part of the film is very brilliant. Whether it's a dance scene where the heroine is in a scene of different colors and styles, or a song and dance scene where the hero teaches French children. Especially in the end, the large-scale singing and dancing section where the male protagonist fantasizes about having a lover with the female protagonist can be described as wonderful. Whether it is the red roses that echo successively, the abstract background in the same style as the sketch, as well as the carefully choreographed dance and camera positions, all explain the film's reason for winning the Oscar. So to a certain extent, the future "Song in the Rain" is an improvement on the existing basis, and it can even be said to be a repetition. And "In Paris" is even more interesting in its approach to storytelling.
This film actually shows how a film can use other means to make up for the flaws in the plot and make the audience love or even temporarily forget the moral flaws of the protagonist.
The main story is not too hard, just use other elements to make it up!
