In terms of expressing emotions, music, painting and words are interlinked, and different forms of artistic expression all lead to the same goal by different means. Therefore, even though this movie is equivalent to a two-and-a-half-hour stage play, I did not feel the slightest procrastination and boredom. Instead, I was tightly surrounded by the overwhelming soundtrack and singing, like being in a storm and sinking into a roaring sea. With the waves, there are moments of emotional bursts, and more of them are moved like weeping. Hugo's "Les Miserables" has a huge impact on my life. The images of the characters he created have aroused strong resonance with me, because those characters more or less have their own shadows. This novel reflects the complex history after the French Revolution from 1805 to 1832. It is almost all-encompassing and the amount of information is dizzying. From the royal family to the people, from high-ranking officials to the poor, from schools to monasteries, from warriors to convicts, go to heaven and earth with ease. Of course, as a musical of more than two hours, it is impossible to fully reflect all the contents of Hugo’s million-word masterpiece. In addition, there is basically no dialogue between the protagonists of the movie. It's all singing, and the musical expression of sigh and three chants, invisibly slowed down the rhythm of the movie. However, the film uses singing to shape characters and use singing to promote the plot, directly cutting off many plots, and still retains the essence of the original, that is, singing humanity and justice in a tragic world. Under the director's superb control, the whole movie has produced unparalleled spectacular beauty and emotional beauty. The huge artistic appeal can penetrate the human soul.
