about freedom, about love

My favorite American movie at this stage, this is the first time I have been so deeply moved by American culture. About freedom, family, love, morals, responsibility, friends...everything is different from my life, but it seems that everything is the same again.

This is life.

Life is the way it should be, everyone's life is different, everyone is struggling. We will never be able to enjoy absolute freedom, and we will always have the urge to escape from the status quo.

Mother: Why are you back?

Gilbert: I don't know. But I am here.

Faced with the predicament of life, some people fled, perhaps they left their relatives and friends in perfidiousness, or they committed suicide because of overwhelm, but we can choose to stay. Gilbert couldn't explain why he stayed, just as he couldn't explain why he couldn't always think of himself. The reason for Gilebert to stay is by no means a single family affection or moral restraint, it is a choice, any language delusional description of the reason for the choice will appear pale, because behind the choice is life.

The name of the movie is Whats Eating Gilbert Grap. At the end of the movie, Gilbert was redeemed, gained freedom and found love. However, the film only tells us a story, and does not try to teach us to solve the riddle of life. Would Gilbert still be stranded in this town if his mother hadn't died suddenly? We have never been free, we have always been captives of life, but we have the right to choose whether to continue living this way, we can also adjust our mentality, and we can allow ourselves to be weak occasionally. So in fact, we always have a choice.

In the face of life, everyone is strong and everyone is vulnerable. Everyone shown in the film is a lovely person. Maybe some people like it, some people hate it, but they are all flesh and blood people, how wonderful.

I always want to find a right way, but in fact every choice is life, it has nothing to do with right or wrong. I don't know if the movie depicts an American utopia, but I sincerely hope that although we all have our own lives and our own troubles, we respect each other, love each other, be free and care about each other.
