Qualified thriller, tragedy caused by values

The atmosphere rendering of this film is still very good, and the elements of horror also run through the whole play. Although there is a bit of horror fatigue in the later stage (the source of the horror is too single), the director's grasp of the atmosphere is still in place.
Obviously, scientific knowledge is the flaw of this film. Everyone has discussed it a lot, and there are also many slots. I will not expand it here. What I want to mention is the values conveyed by this film, the rationality and unreasonableness of this film from the perspective of character psychology and decision-making.

Rationality
1. As a scientist who studies extraterrestrial life, he discovered extraterrestrial life during his lifetime, and he cultivated and activated it by himself, and it was the first discovery of all mankind. He was emotional and regarded scientific discovery as higher than himself. life is entirely possible - provided he is fanatical enough about his research.
2. The astronauts on the space station have been with each other for more than 100 days and have deep feelings. After a companion is injured/killed by an extraterrestrial life, there will naturally be some emotional turmoil and an inability to remain calm. And there is a fluke in their hearts to survive. They want to minimize the sacrifices and come up with the best solution in an ideal situation. At the same time, influenced by their values, they do not want anyone to sacrifice, and they want to save everyone.
3. From the experience of civil aviation (I don't know the situation of aerospace), the commander's decision should be questioned to avoid major mistakes in single-person decision-making. Although this is somewhat similar to an army organization, there should be a reasonable feedback channel under the authority of the superior.

Irrationality
1. Risk assessment in decision-making. All decisions are made in an ideal state, so there is indeed no problem with the plan, but in the face of unknown creatures, the degree of fault tolerance in decision-making is too low, and it is too ideal-I hope that the sacrificed people will rest in peace, and those who survive will live. The result, of course, was to underestimate Calvin's ability, overestimate the resources/technical reserves of his own space station, ignore the outside interference on the result, and be defeated by Calvin.
2. Lack of calm and rational psychological quality. Now even civil aviation pilots are required to have strong psychological qualities, not to mention astronauts? But they have no way to face any subsequent variables rationally. Sad, flustered, furious, almost irrational. The crew members cannot express the contradiction between the strong psychological quality of the characters and the unacceptable emotional storm in their hearts, and only stay on the almost superficial psychology and behavior of the characters-this is the biggest flaw in the psychological portrayal of this film.
3. Self-contradictory dedication. It can be seen from the firewall settings that the astronauts going to the space station are willing to sacrifice themselves and are willing to use themselves as the third firewall. But astronauts are not willing to sacrifice themselves when making decisions, but want to save everyone. When there is only one enemy and there are many allies, it is only at the end that I think of sacrificing one to save the other.
4. Connect to the previous one. If you can sacrifice decisively when there are 4 people left, put eggs in 4 baskets, monitor the vital signs, directly isolate the area targeted by Calvin, reduce the oxygen content to kill Calvin, then you can sacrifice 1 person And save 3 people. It is precisely because no one wants to sacrifice (the spirit of the Virgin? Humanism? Or comrade-in-arms? In short, a value drives them), coupled with the psychology of luck, that leads to the situation that no one can be saved.

——So
this film, as a thriller, is still good, but as a science fiction film, it is estimated that it is difficult to reach the passing line. It's purely a fun-to-watch, mindless movie--of course, looking at the looks of the actors is still pretty good.
