The male protagonist Michael seeks God's help because of his illness, thereby further denying his gay identity. In my opinion, the reason why Michael chose to "straighten" is nothing more than to relieve his anxiety in this way, or try to change the predicament he is in.
Nowadays, many comrades choose to enter heterosexual marriages, but they cannot bear the pressure of society. For them, a relatively peaceful life is more important than vigorous love. Judging from the experience Michael and his wife met and got married, he did not love this woman, he just felt that doing so was approved by God, so he had to do it.
Therefore, the equality of comrades is still very important. Maybe someday people will stop caring about someone being gay or straight, and more about their lover's rights as a normal person, so that there will be fewer confused people like "Michael" in society.
