This is a film that feels calm after watching it, but in fact it will quietly leave a depressing mark in your heart.

Juan in the street

Start talking about Juan, actor called Mach Salad Ali , particular temperament of black actors in the "house of cards" where there are wonderful performances, the film he is the only familiar face. He didn't appear much in the film, but he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his excellent performance. He is a drug dealer in the film, and like every day, he drives out to patrol the streets to meet the boys who help him sell drugs. Little chiron ran past him, he was being "chased" by a group of companions.

Unlike the drug dealers seen in other movies, from Juan's eyes, you can't see greed, cold blood, violence and denial of six relatives. Not only that, but Juan's home became a sanctuary for chiron because of similar childhood experiences, which allowed chiron to find a place of tenderness in a ruthless world. Another place is his good friend Kevin.

Let's talk about chiron, the protagonist of this film. This film starts with chiron's growth experience, which are little/chiron/black. Among them, little and black are the nicknames Kevin gave to Chiron. The director is also using three different names to allude to the process of chiron gradually finding himself in the shadow of growth, but maybe the second part [chiron], the one in high school is the real him, and it has never changed.

Chiron lives in a single-parent family in a black slum neighborhood in the United States. Unfortunately, his mother is also a drug addict, so his mood is very unstable, and he can also tell Chiron not to go home for the sake of gun/drug friends. The greatest love for chiron is to touch his head. Yes, just rubbing the head. So in such a home, chiron has nothing but a bedroom of his own. In school, chiron is withdrawn, he never takes the initiative to communicate with anyone, his only friend is kevin. Throughout his campus life, he was bullied by school bullies, hunted down, and called gay. So this time on campus, which we call youth, has also become a disaster for Chiron, making him want to escape.

Juan is a haven for little chiron

Chiron, who is extremely insecure, has been looking for a safe haven. In 1 [little], Juan and Teresa are his safe havens; in 2 [chiron], Juan is killed, and his safe haven is kevin; in 3 [black], on the surface, he His safe haven is his muscles, gold chain, gold teeth and gold watch, but the fact is that as a small drug dealer, he has insomnia and no sex life every day.

The change of chiron in the film begins with the resistance to the school bully. This scene appears in the second part, when the school bully has a pain in the ass and decides to play tricks on chiron again. And they wanted Chiron's friend kevin to act as a thug, of course Chiron wouldn't fight back, but they didn't think it was fun, so this "pinch the soft egg" ended with a group fight by the school bully. Chiron talked to the school's teachers and decided not to sue the school bullies, but the anger that had been suppressed in his heart for more than ten years was out of control. He rushed into the classroom with injuries, picked up the chair and knocked the school bully out. He was also imprisoned for campus violence. There was no situation where no one on campus dared to provoke him after he was released from prison in the youth movie. Since then, he has changed, and his body has changed from a thin body to a muscular man; he has become a drug dealer, and he has become a drug dealer leader like Juan who is strong enough to be an umbrella. The difference is that what he only wants to protect is himself, the strong muscles, and the golden teeth have become his armor, so that he will no longer be hurt. But the damage has already been done. Whether it is family or school, these griefs that he wants to forget have been tormenting him, even though he seems to be invincible.

MOONLIGHT That night was moonlit

There are two scenes under the moonlight in the film, both of which are nestled beside Kevin. Chiron in the moonlight no longer suppresses loneliness, but enjoys peace.

first moonlight play

[The first moonlight scene] After chiron was bullied by his mother and the school bully, he took the subway alone. He didn't go home. It seemed that he had no destination. However, he subconsciously took him to the beach near Kevin's house. Maybe this is the tacit understanding between friends, kevin appeared. They talked while smoking, and they looked at each other in a fight. Maybe it was the pressure of life or mutual love. The two kissed tacitly in the moonlight, and Kevin broke the place with his hand.

BLACK NEVER GROW UP

Second Moonlight Play

[Second Moonlight Scene] Many years later, Chiron, a muscular man, received a call from Kevin in Atlanta, hoping to see his former best friend/girlfriend again. Chiron decided to go back to her hometown to visit her at the repeated begging of her elderly mother, and to see Kevin by the way. In the drug rehab center, the mother and son had their first heart-to-heart conversation, but no amount of apology could make up for the hurt to Chiron. In kevin's restaurant, chiron and kevin meet again, kevin has become a chef, they drink and reminisce together, chiron has changed back to the way he used to be, the real look, the gold chain and gold teeth are so superfluous in front of kevin . kevin has a child, but is single, chiron is not sociable, he has no friends, except for his younger brother and clients who help him sell drugs. The two returned to kevin's house together, and chiron finally confessed, YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE. You are the only one who has touched me. They returned to the beach under the moonlight. Chiron, the macho man, leaned on kevin's shoulder like last time. That little black never grew up, and he still loved kevin as a safe haven like before.
