"Ghost in the Shell" movie version and animation version, the business and philosophical soul hidden in the prosthesis

First of all, let me introduce myself. The author is a die-hard fan of the shell. I have watched the original animated series and animated movies countless times.

Secondly, I will introduce a cold knowledge: the most correct way to read the name of the movie is the mobile team (Qiao fourth tone).

The main purpose of writing this review is to spread some information about the original work to all friends who may have watched this adaptation and have not been in contact with the animation and the original work.

The original work is from the manga artist Shirou Masamune. The main directors of the film and animation series are Mamoru Oshii and Kenji Kamiyama of Japan. The music god Yoko Kanno wrote the music for the animation.

Introduction of characters:

Motoko Kusanagi (the heroine of the movie and the first protagonist of the whole work of Shell): A former professional soldier and special agent, currently (movie timeline) is the captain of the 9th Section of the Public Security, with the rank of major, equivalent to a major. In addition to the brain, full body prosthesis, bisexuality, the argument in the movie is mechanical reinforcement.

Bart: A veteran of the 9th Division of Public Security, he served in the Marine Corps and participated in real wars, during which he underwent a high proportion of prosthetic surgery. The added eyes that were remodeled in the middle of the movie. In the animation, it is standard equipment for participating in the Marine Corps. There is nothing special in the movie, but it can be played. Bart and Motoko have a very ambiguous relationship.

Section Chief Aramaki: Section Chief of Section 9 of the Public Security Bureau with super sharp haircut, who is only responsible to the Prime Minister of Japan, and whose political status is equivalent to that of Dongchang Factory Capital during the Ming Dynasty in my country. He has a high IQ and a strong sense of the big picture. He is a very capable leader.

Togusa: In the movie, it's just a supporting character who said a few words, but in the animation, he is the core member of Nine Lessons. In the early and middle stages, he didn't accept the metamorphosis at all, but in the highly metamorphic Nine Lessons, it was one of the cores. He is both civil and military, does not recognize automatic weapons, and is equipped with a revolver Mateba.

Saito: One of the core members of Lesson Nine, a former professional soldier who has undergone a sniper prosthesis transformation, there should be a satellite in low-Earth orbit to help him aim his eyes. One shot kills the next helicopter in the movie.

There are three people in Yiti Company: Chairman: Original character. Autopsy Girl: Original character, there is a policewoman who is very similar to her in the animated film version, but this policeman doesn't like people who are prosthetized. Female engineer: The person in the movie who helped Motoko transform successfully. Original movie characters. This prosthetic company has a lot of roles in the original work, many stories are related to this company, and the background is deep. But the chairman, chief engineer and others should not have appeared in the animation works.

Kuze Hero: In the original work, it was Motoko's childhood sweetheart. Once a high-ranking paraplegic, seeing the successful transformation, he decided to undergo prosthetic surgery. Later, he joined the army. In the movie, he is a superficial person who wants to take revenge on the prosthetic company. But in the animation, by himself, he was on a par with the entire Nine Section of the Public Security. Nearly detonated a nuclear bomb, causing another large-scale war across East Asia. is an extreme idealist.

This adaptation of the movie version of Ghost in the Shell, from a commercial point of view, can actually score a pass or above, and even a high score is not too much. The special effects of the picture are actually better than the animation works (except for innocence), it is very worthwhile. Look, technology is advancing after all. The plot can be regarded as telling a complete and well-organized story. Audiences who have never been in contact with the original work can understand the plot without too much effort. Even the audience who loves to use their brains can basically understand the philosophy of this work from the movie. idea.

But it's a remake, and it's obviously not fully endorsed by fans of the original (laughs). This is also the original sin of the remake. First of all, the original work is good enough media work, and then it will be remade. The remake, but it did not meet the psychological expectations of the original fans. A low score is normal. But I still hope it sells well. Because I want to see the second remake. Even want to see it become a series. I think. The group of people who remade the movie must also think so, so fans of the original can actually see that this work has compromised a bit on the commercial part.

This is also a very helpless thing. Ghost in the Shell has a super good reputation. Otherwise there would not be so many diehards. But in fact. The commercial return of the original animated version was poor and completely unworthy of the word-of-mouth it garnered. The data from Baidu said: The most well-made Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence. The cost is 2 billion yen. However, the box office in the early stage was only 1 billion yen, which was only returned after several years. Even the economic environment at the time can't be blamed, for comparison: in the same period, Hayao Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Castle, which cost about the same, should have sold for nearly 20 billion yen.

Ghost in the Shell is one of the most representative works of cyberpunk and hard sci-fi works in film history. Such a box-office ending means it is self-evident: hard sci-fi works in the form of animation: the audience is really too small ! Audiences who don't like this kind of subject matter don't even want to give a score to this kind of work. I once recommended my friends to watch it, but none of my friends insisted on watching it.

The overall plot of this live-action movie version is actually a combination of the two separate stories of the original, plus the standard Hollywood heroism, the idea of finding oneself, and Hollywood's ultimate trick: special effects, And put together a whole new story. The surface villain of the movie: Kuze Hero, the prototype of this character comes from the Ghost in the Shell theatrical version: 11 individual people. The ending of this character is from Ghost in the Shell sss: The Story of the Puppet Master. The individual 11 people told the story of Kuze's attempt to trigger a war through cybercrime and achieve his political goals. The puppet master told a complete machine after it was created. The story of Ghost (soul) is born in the shell. And the core idea. The theatrical version of the original work discusses the id, superego, Zhuang Zhou Mengdie, whether machines can produce souls, and whether human beings whose whole body is prosthetic except the brain still retains ghosts (souls), many of the dialogues in the original work, at the beginning It looks extremely boring. The core idea of the adapted version of the film only has a little side with the soul in the shell, and it still uses artificially changing memory, which is an extremely common method in other film and television works.

Therefore, the entire adapted version of the movie just borrowed the IP of Ghost in the Shell to create an extremely high-tech materialized new story, which cannot be regarded as a real cyberpunk. In terms of plot, it can only be regarded as a parallel universe with the original, but the appearance and personality of the characters are more similar.

But the movie is still worth watching. The strength and beauty of Suzi, played by Sister Widow as the first protagonist, coexist with her brave and proud personality, as well as her convincing leadership temperament. In fact, she is well represented. About Suzi's rationality and wisdom, it really doesn't matter. As for the widow sister's acting skills, after all, how the script is written, how can the actors act. In the original work, Major Motoko likes to lecture the bad guys while beating up the bad guys. It's really super emotional, and it makes people's blood boil. It's a pity that this effect was not shot in the adapted movie.

This work borrowed from the ip in the shell, special effects, gunfights, actions, the construction and presentation of a near-futuristic city, and some fantasy from the original work, such as prosthetic enhancement, stealth battle suits, internal communication systems, etc. It's enough to make a melon eater's eyes shine, enough to watch a good-looking movie.

If it is ten, I will give this movie an eight, with a little bit of selfishness, and extra points for the good-looking profile of the widow sister!

I hope the bean friends who have not been in contact with Ghost in the Shell before can go to the cinema and enjoy the movie after reading my review. Then out of curiosity, take a look at the previous Ghost in the Shell game. If you want to try it, I recommend watching Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence first.

It is precisely because of the love of shells that I hope this adaptation can become an opportunity to make more people fall in love with shells and cyberpunk.

Ghost in the Shell quotes

  • Batou: [Batou just got new eyes] Say something nice.

    Major: You chose those?

    Batou: They're tactical.

  • Major: Tell me who you are.

Kuze: I am that which you seek to destroy. In this life, my name is Kuze.

Major: What are you doing to me?

Kuze: I have connected you to a network of my own creation. When I am finished in this world, my ghost can survive there and regenerate.

Major: What do you want from me?

Kuze: I became fascinated with you, reading your code while you were inside that geisha. Like nothing I had felt before and yet so... familiar. We are the same.

Major: We are not the same. You kill innocent people.

Kuze: "Innocent", is that what you call them? I am as they made me.

    Major: Who made you?

Kuze: What have they told you? That you were the first? The first cerebral salvage? You were born of lessons took from my failure.

Major: What are you talking about?

Kuze: I was conscious while they dismembered my body and discarded me like garbage. I was lying on a table, listening to doctors talk about how my mind had not meshed with the shell that they had built, how Project 2571 had failed, and they had to move on to you.

[removes a piece of Major's face]

Kuze: What a beauty you are. They have improved us so much since they made me. They thought we would be a part of their evolution, but they have created us to evolve alone... beyond them.

Major: "Evolution", that's what you call killing everyone who made you?

Kuze: You're not listening to me.

    Major: You're a murderer.

Kuze: They tried to kill me first. It is self-defense; defense of self! More will die until they tell me what they took!
