The impossible place in the heart

It's a good story, but there's only one thing to me

- it's true.

The plot of the movie is very simple: after the wicked bastard brother is released from prison, he and his impoverished brother go to rob the bank. The older brother is for enjoyment and to help the younger brother get out of trouble, and the younger brother is to redeem his mother's mortgaged farm—— The farm's backyard has plenty of oil, enough to lift his family and future generations out of poverty. The other opposite, the retiring old sheriff and his partner go after the bank-robbing brothers. The elder brother sacrificed to protect his younger brother, and killed the old sheriff's partner before he died.

As for the ending, let me just put this movie in my top ten of the year. why? Because this is reality, this is life. The younger brother has no criminal record and no evidence of committing the crime. This is just an external rationality. What really made the old sheriff let him go, except for the sacrifice he made for the new world, I think it is more a kind of sympathy.

"If you come as a guest, maybe I can give you peace of mind."
"Maybe , maybe I can give you peace of mind."

In fact, this story only tells about two kinds of people, one is the younger brother and the old sheriff, and the other is the elder brother and the old sheriff's partner.

The younger brother is the traditional image of a Texas farmer. He has been conscientious all his life, never killed anyone, and never did anything bad. This kind of person is a typical representative of the red neck, similar to Forrest Gump in film history, and his integrity, honesty, kindness and bravery are in line with the American spirit. But he was poor, he was unlucky, his wife divorced him, he didn't have a good relationship with his sons, he didn't have a skill, and he lost his job. This type of person is destined to be miserable. He has no rush and hope, and can only leave hope to the next generation, so when he risked his life to rob a bank with his brother, just to redeem his mother's farm and for his children. escape the fate of poverty. The sacrifices and tragedies made in it speak for themselves.

"Dad, you said you didn't want me to be like you, and now you're giving me beer again."
"Good boy." The

old sheriff is the last witness of the bygone cowboy era, and we can all see his every move Go to the glorious past when the horses are galloping under the setting sun. He's old, too old to keep up with the times, and he doesn't like even if his partner plays a rock 'n' roll that's a little more popular. Some people dismissed him, saying he was outdated, like the old cowboy he met on the road said: "It's the 21st century, and I still have to do this damn cow-driving job, I kind of know. Why did my children leave here."

Of course, there are still people who respect him, and the "heroic spirit" in them is always an irresistible charm.

The younger brother and the sheriff are a kind of people, because they are both representatives of the old world, and they are all trying to exert their last remaining heat. They go through fire and water at all costs.

The opposite of the old world is not necessarily the new world. The older brother and the old sheriff's partner, both of whom are followers of the old world.

The older brother appeared in front of the audience as an outlaw. Just like the traditional criminal who robs houses, murders and sets fires, he robs banks not for money or for a better life, he just enjoys the process, and he likes to live a life of running away and licking blood. Many times people do something not for the result, but because it is their choice. Maybe in West Texas, no matter the era, there are always people like that.

As for the old sheriff's partner, apart from his identity as an Indian (being killed by his brother later also satirized the white people's mutilation of Indians at the beginning), this character is relatively simple. He admired and adored the old sheriff, imitating his dress and always asking to join him on missions. But he's mediocre, and no matter what he does, he'll never be the old sheriff. At this point, he is the same as today's hot-blooded young people who say that I want to be who and who. For example, when I learn guitar, they say that I want to be Bob Dylan, and when I write a novel, I want to be Marquez. What is the result? Woolen cloth? All of them were bloodied.

The director is very smart. He pitted two identical people against each other, and showed the noble truth through their confrontation. He broke away from the stereotype of traditional crime films that good people must overcome bad people, and showed the audience a deeper cognitive perspective - there is no such thing as good people and bad people in this world, but each chooses his own life, each chooses his own position.

Since it was in the west, the director naturally felt nostalgic by the way. For this story, the lawless place in the heart not only refers to the cowboy days of the past, but also refers to the judgment of justice in people's hearts - which is beyond any law.

In addition, after so many years, I finally understand Wang Xiaobo's phrase "people who only know right and wrong are pathetic".
