Star Trek 3: Lost in the Stars

At the beginning, the familiar theme song sounded, inexplicably moved.
The opening song of Star Wars may be highly recognizable and has a strong sense of epic. When I heard it in the cinema for the first time, I even cheered excitedly. The endless reverie highlights the theme of the great nautical spirit and exploration. This is probably the most fundamental difference between the two equally famous series. As the 50th anniversary of the film, it opens in the exploration.
After the restart and foreshadowing of the first two works, Captain Kirk finally embarked on a five-year journey to explore the edge of the universe, contacting different civilizations and races in the same universe, and moving around as a peace messenger, much like the United States as a world policeman. But when you think about these fantasy-themed works, human beings often put themselves in the center of the universe and the leader of the world, as if they were a superior civilization, putting on a face of spreading peace and maintaining stability, but the subtext was You all have to obey me. This kind of thinking also originated from the era of great voyages, and exploration and conquest are just the A side and the B side of this spirit.
However, the film was not actually made into a big exploration and discovery movie, and the addition of Justin Lin added more action elements to the already action-oriented Star Trek.
Justin Lin is probably the most well-known action film director in recent years. His fast-paced film style, the close integration of narrative and action, as well as the unexpected action scenes and small humor that appear from time to time, will never let one go. The movie has long periods of coldness and dullness. What's more, Simon Pegg himself wrote the script, not to mention the humorous part of the film. It's a pity that the fusion of these elements only makes this film a "Fast and Furious 50: Star Trek".
Revenge, revenge, or revenge, each of the rebooted Star Trek trilogy is an Avengers story. Captain Kirk is really a protagonist who is easy to draw hatred. Almost every time he carries hatred that has nothing to do with him on himself, he can be called the number one MT in the universe. And the avenger in this film can only be described as weak. Similar to the Avenger Khan in the dark and boundless, Edison in Beyond the Stars also wants to bring down the entire Interstellar Federation. But Edison was just too petty when he began to hate Starlink just because he was trapped in the universe for help on an exploration mission. In comparison, Khan is more like a real avenger in terms of skill, strategy, or planned actions, or the purpose of revenge. The previous work spent a lot of plots to portray Khan's character and the grievances of the same star alliance. In this film, the sense of existence of the villain is much weaker, and even the hesitant speech can make people sympathetic. I thought that the weakness of the villain only existed in superhero movies, but I didn't expect it to spread to these old sci-fi movies so quickly. Star Wars 7 was also criticized because the villain was too weak.
But looking at Justin Lin's past works, he didn't use too much space to portray the villains. For example, several villains in Fast and Furious are basically at the level of weak beginnings and endings. The author has always felt that there is no need for his movie villains to exist, and the theme he wants to express is often the cohesion of his family in the face of a crisis. It is for this reason why Toledo emphasizes the concept of family in every Speed movie.
The first two Star Treks were still exploring the individual connections and interactions between the protagonists and supporting characters, while Beyond the Stars no longer portrays individuals individually, but instead emphasizes the role of the Enterprise crew as a whole. That's why the screenwriter constructs the drama of the crew being separated, arrested and rescued from each other, while the villain hates being abandoned, and the newly added character Zyra survives alone and is afraid of abandonment, all to express the theme of unity and collective.
Of course, for Captain Kirk and Spock, the plot still sets a personal dark line for them. Both of them wanted to leave the Enterprise for personal reasons. Spock was hesitant about his own destiny because of the death of the old Spock who came through. Captain Kirk was similar to the villain Edison, lost in the A long voyage of exploration is exactly what the word trek describes. Therefore, the author has always felt that the Chinese translation of Star Trek is very meaningful, not only emphasizing exploration, but also hinting at the possible psychological states during exploration. In fact, whether it is Kirk's loss or Spock's hesitation, they are inseparable from the collective enterprise. Spock gave up this small family for his larger family, and Kirk wanted to make another family. , when the event was over, they discovered how much they loved the group.
There are no bright spots in the routine of the plot, but it cannot hide the excitement of the action scenes. The swarm fighter may be the most outstanding part of the film. Whether it is the fall of the Enterprise at the beginning or the raid on York City at the end, the dense but organized group combat is simply a visual feast. In recent years, only Ender's in-game Armageddon has been able to produce a similar spectacle. The most eye-catching scene about the swarm battle is the raid on York City. This is a tribute to the idea of the Martians playing on the earth, using loud music full of rhythm and shouting to destroy the connection between the swarms. The explosion in the picture and the The music in my ears cooperated seamlessly, the drum beat of the music just met the explosion point of the fighter jet, and the author's emotions were taken away in an instant.
The personal action scenes are quite satisfactory, the fights, gunfights, fighter jets and spaceship chases are all maintained at a high level, the biubiubiu of the laser gun makes the sense of blow lost, only Zyra uses the phantom to fight the enemy and Captain Kirk uses the phantom to disrupt the rescue. The crew's bridges are quite creative. In fact, in the personal fight, the film also used a lot of handheld lenses, which made people dizzy. Fortunately, director Justin Lin did not abuse the skills of quick editing, otherwise the 3D look and feel of this film would be exactly the same as the Bourne Bourne 5. What's more, the movie has a lot of dark environments and night scenes, and the dark tones of Swarm Fighter are not as bright and colorful as the blues and oranges in Ender's game. So unless you are keen on the IMAX or ReadD highlighted version, try to choose 2D to watch it.
Although director Justin Lin has brought a faster pace and more air combat and action elements to the film, he is not a life-saving medicine for this series after all, and this Beyond the Stars doesn't look like what Star Trek should have in his mind. look.
