what a guilty pleasure from Almodóvar

I went to watch this new film with my friends on vacation. The media commented in general, and the consensus was that this was not the peak level of belly slippery love. After all, the bank holiday was boring over the long weekend, so I watched it with warm enthusiasm. The result is unexpectedly good-looking, and yes, the director is a master of the Spanish film industry after all, the delicate emotional world of women, the long span of time, the estrangement between generations, etc.
The plot of the film comes from Alice Munro's short story collection 'Escape', in which three are interrelated 'Opportunity', 'The Rush' and 'Silence'. The director once said that he is a fan of the writer, and in the previous work 'The Skin of My Sea', he brought private goods for the heroine who was under house arrest to read this book. After watching the movie, I found the original book and read it. The film is actually quite faithful to the original text, so there seems to be no reason for the comments that some plots are not clean up.
Saying 'beautiful', because Aimous Belly Slip is so 'taken' from the story that was originally set in the harsh environment of Canada, and transplanted to his world, which is gorgeous and rich in Europe, and it is very natural and appropriate without being obtrusive. If the style of the original book is simple and unpretentious, while the film is full of brilliance, Hitchcock-style suspense and melodrama, it may not be realistic, but the beautiful world is so fascinating and enjoyable. , the most prominent part is the beginning of the train, moving to the passionate Spain I think is even more natural than the original.
'Beautiful' indeed, the rich colours, the old apartments in Madrid, the cottages by the sea, the Andalusian countryside up to the mountain roads of Switzerland, it's like an advertisement for European Tourism. The color matching of the personal signage, the jazz soundtrack, the artwork hanging on the wall, the furnishings in the room, etc. all reflect the taste.
At the same time, under this glamour, there is also a less obvious gloom in the original work, which is undoubtedly the director's magic touch. The details are like the empty travel bag of a suicide man, and the royal Rosy de Palma is like a witch, which makes people's back chills (Goddess aura! ) and her daughter, who had been hiding a secret for over 10 years, finally left home, and saying that this is 'everyone's retribution' would probably make every parenting audience take a breath.
So although this is not the director's most in-depth work, but what a guilty pleasure!

Returning to familiar themes, it is very handy, the colors are bright and beautiful like the clear sky after rain, and the interior installation art is full score; the story is very smooth, but in Almodovar's works, it can only be regarded as quite satisfactory, there is no surprise, and the closing is a little rushed; The deer that Hong glanced at, the suicidal person full of thoughts, liked this kind of epiphany.
