Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what the next one will taste like.

The film involves many scientific theories, such as the pigeon theory, the butterfly effect, superstring theory, relativity, the Big Bang and so on. But they all have a common purpose to serve the plot. Taking the pigeon theory at the beginning as an example, it tells that humans can use a certain method to make pigeons superstitious, so as to explore why humans have superstitious behavior, which means that many things we think are true What you control is actually caused by many initial small causes. So, as for the things in life, you have to listen to others? Or choose by yourself? This opening also provides a perfect foreshadowing for the unfolding of the following plot.
Before watching this movie, I did a little bit of popular science, but many netizens bluntly said that it was too brain-burning and could not understand. So, I watched the film earnestly with the mentality of watching "Mulholland Drive", but found that the context of the story is not too difficult to understand. Maybe when you first watch it, you will think that this is a movie with a non-linear narrative. In fact, this is a movie that disrupts multiple linear narrative threads and then mixes them together, so when you watch it, there is a kind of " WTF” feeling, the mind is disrupted by the incoherent picture, the director is led by the nose, and multiple narrative threads are mixed together. Of course, strictly speaking, the narration of the film is difficult to classify. The director uses too many expressive techniques, and there is a mixed form, which makes the film's thinking a bit confusing. If it is not handled properly, it will be ruined. I admit that I do not like this approach , but Dormel did it quite well.

As for the multi-line narrative clues of the film, there are many great gods on the Internet who have different opinions. Here I will briefly talk about my understanding (if you don’t like it, don’t spray it, if you have different opinions, welcome to exchange): It all started with Nemo’s mother. After having an affair, he broke up with Nemo's father, and the family parted at the train station. Nemo couldn't make a choice about whether to live with his father or with his mother. Because he was not "cared for" by the forgotten angel before he was born, he had the ability to predict the future.
One: Nemo caught up with the train and chose to live with his mother, immigrated to Canada, and met Anna.

(1) On the beach, she chose to refuse Anna's invitation to swim, saying she didn't want to play with a fool. A few years later, she met Anna at the station. Anna was a mother of 3 children.
(2) He chose to be shy and said he couldn't swim on the beach. Anna accompanied him. The two began to adore each other and fell in love. The love lasted for a long time. When he grew up, he got married and had children. Nemo became a TV host. One day after get off work, he had a car accident, the car rolled into the lake, and Nemo drowned.
(3) Anna's dad (the affair of Nemo's mother) also moved to Canada and married Nemo's mother. Nemo and Anna became formally brother and sister, but fell in love. As a result, the "adultery" was discovered, their parents broke up, and Anna's father took Anna to leave Canada to live in New York. The two agreed that if there is a chance, the lighthouse by the lake will meet again.
A. Years later, Nemo was a pool repairman, waiting year after year for Anna to show up. Passing by the train station, I saw a beggar, chose to give some change and left, passing by Anna.
B. Years later, Nemo was a pool repairman, waiting year after year for Anna to show up. Passing by the train station, I saw a beggar dead, and I chose to call the police. After a few minutes of delay, Anna appeared...
2: Nemo didn't catch up with the train and lived with his father.

Father is paralyzed, Nemo has no friends and is withdrawn. In his spare time, he wrote novels and took care of his father until he met Alison and Jenny.
(1) Nemo met Alison at the dance, and he fell in love. The next day, he wrote a love letter to send it to the door, but found that Alison and Stefano were together and chose to get angry because of jealousy. Drag racing to vent, too high, get into a car accident and become a vegetative person.
(2) Nemo met Alison at the dance, and he fell in love. The next day, he wrote a love letter to send it to the door, but found that Alison and Stefano were together, chose to leave, and finally got Ellie Sen's heart.
A. Growing up, Nemo was a TV presenter and married Alison and had 3 children, but Alison never forgot Stefano and suffered from depression. Nemo takes good care of Alison, but Alison eventually chooses to leave.
B. Growing up, Nemo was a TV presenter and married Alison. When he got home, he encountered a traffic jam, the fuel tanker exploded, and Alison died. Nemo's face was half burned, and he missed his deceased wife in the urn all day long. One day after get off work, passing by the small lake, I found that my colleague's car had overturned and drowned. The drowned colleague was Anna's husband. Years later, in order to fulfill the wish he made to Alison when he was a child, Nemo accompanied the spacecraft to Mars to scatter his wife's ashes on Mars. On the return journey, he met Anna, and then encountered a meteor swarm and the spacecraft exploded.
(3) Nemo met Alison at the dance, and he fell in love with him. The next day, he wrote a love letter to send it to the door, but found that Alison and Stefano were together. He chose to be angry because of jealousy, but went home. There was no car accident on the way, and he went home and vowed to marry the first girl who danced at the dance, so when he grew up, he married Jenny and became a millionaire.
A. A long-term life without love made Nemo suffer from depression, and finally chose to run away from home and was killed by a train.
B. A life without love for a long time made Nemo suffer from depression, and finally chose to run away from home and decide his own destiny with the front and back of a coin. Impersonating Mr. Jones to stay in a fancy hotel and was shot while taking a shower.
The above is the story line I have sorted out and what I understand. As for the story in 2092, I firmly believe that it was a "parallel universe" established in Nemo's mind in order to avoid the choice at the station. In my opinion, the real timeline ends when Nemo can't make a choice at the station, and the rest of the plot is what Nemo foresaw.

Romantics will think that the main story line of the film is about Nemo and Anna's love, so such a creative story will inevitably fall into the stereotypes that have been played for decades. In my opinion, "People with No Surname" is a composition with the proposition that "choice makes life full of infinite possibilities". Many things in life are caused by the initial small causes, just like Nemo has not been favored by the forgotten angel, but in the future, the occurrence of various things in your life is determined by your choices, and a decision will affect Your next decision, life belongs to you, but also be true to yourself, choose to make life full of infinite possibilities. Therefore, if you don't understand the plot, please don't doubt your IQ, just grasp the center of "choice makes life full of infinite possibilities" and believe that you will sort out a smoother and more reasonable story line.
"The Man with No Name" is easily reminiscent of other films. For example, when I watch it, I always like to playfully call it an alternative version of "Forrest Gump" in this or that plot. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, or even an alternative version of Cloud Atlas.
I have mentioned the shortcomings of this film's hybrid format before, but the shortcomings of this film are more than this. On the surface, there are too many things that the film wants to express, but if the carrying capacity is too large, it will inevitably collapse. At the beginning of the film, the problems of physical theories such as the pigeon theory and the butterfly effect are thrown up, and then they are thrown out again and again. There are a lot of family problems, and then there are a lot of questions such as love, freedom, and human nature, but even the most prominent question of "choice" in the film does not have a definite answer. Is it something that the director and screenwriter cannot control? Or is it specially left over for us to think about? Perhaps both groups have their supporters.
All in all, this movie has a very good idea and is full of creativity, but I always feel that the script is not hot enough, and sometimes complicates simple issues. If I say, this movie can be summed up in one sentence of Forrest Gump's mother, which is the title "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what the next one will taste."

The exchange value of this 157 minutes. A romantic literary film wrapped in a sci-fi coat, poignant and moving, and hearty. It is reminiscent of "Cloud Atlas", "Song of Opportunity", "Arctic Circle Lovers", etc. It happens that these are also movies that I like very much, which is too rare.
