Since the Count is benevolent and generous, why did he not abstain from extravagance, diligence and thrift, disperse his family wealth and help the poor? If the characters are real, the reason should not be the so-called "class limitations", but the selfishness and laziness of the so-called practical rather than romantic ideals.
