Another "Braveheart"

In my impression, the foreign teacher in high school had seen a war movie. It was very exciting. I vaguely remember that it was about the Revolutionary War. I don't know how long the movie is. I just remember the weekly foreign teacher's class at that time, and it took several weeks to watch the movie. (ps: The foreign teacher's class is too tricky, just put the movie on it~~)

Fortunately, the developed Internet made it easy for me to find this movie in my impression. The name of the movie is "Patriot", and it feels quite uninspired. Surprisingly, the main actor is actually Mel Gibson, the protagonist in "Braveheart". This movie feels a lot like Braveheart, maybe because of the same star. The same wonderful, the same heroism. Both films are also over 170 minutes long.

The protagonist of the film, Benjamin, was once a hero in the war and became famous. But at the time of the American Revolutionary War conscription vote, he opposed the use of force - he was to protect his family, his seven lovely children. However, his eldest son resolutely joined the army and fought for freedom.

The eldest son was wounded and found by the British Royal Army - the Red Shirts. The second son tried to save his brother, but was shot and killed by a British officer on the spot. This became a turning point in Benjamin's attitude towards war. He suddenly realized that he couldn't stay out of it, and the family members he wanted to protect had already been involved. Next is a very exciting part of the film: Benjamin and his two young sons, to rescue the captured eldest son from the hands of 20 British Royal soldiers. This section is really wonderful to the extreme, worthy of an experienced fighter. With the cooperation of his two sons, he successfully killed a whole team of British soldiers and successfully rescued the eldest son. However, the anger and hatred in the heart can only be vented on the downed British soldiers.

The story behind it is still very long, but it doesn't feel boring at all. War is cruel after all, and many people made sacrifices.

What makes people feel warm in the film are Benjamin's children. Fortunately, they did not have to go to the battlefield when they were still young, but they also witnessed the tragic war. When the family's refuge was discovered, his third son was brave and decisive, letting his younger siblings hide below and deal with the enemy alone. Thanks to his wit and courage, his family's lives were saved. And Benjamin's youngest daughter, who has never seen her mother. She was always so quiet, but never spoke. Watching her father go to the battlefield, she just stared blankly, watching alone... Later, she was suddenly able to speak. She told her brother that she hated her father and hoped he would never come back. When Benjamin was about to go to the battlefield again, she still didn't want to pay attention to her father, didn't say a word to him, but she was very stubborn at a young age. However, when she watched her father go away on a war horse, she couldn't hold back her feelings any longer, and cried, "Dad, Daddy, come back, I'm willing to say anything." Benjamin jumped off his horse and ran to his daughter, holding her tightly in his arms with tears in his eyes. This was the most touching scene in my opinion, it brought tears to my eyes.

One may be accidental, but two are some kind of inevitability. Although I don't know much about Mel Gibson, from these two movies alone, he is an excellent actor and a well-deserved king of war movie heroes.

In addition, a movie that took several weeks to watch in high school, I can watch it in one sitting tonight, I feel so happy and happy.

There is a degree of relaxation, and Mel likes to engage in individualism. His son and him were too stupid when they killed the officer. They could have killed him long ago and had so many accidents. Obviously it takes time to get rid of these and Personal heroism is perfect.

Americans still have a very good set of main themes, and they are almost impeccable in terms of the degree of operation of narrative techniques. It’s just that I’m getting old, and the skill seems to be only enough to mobilize my adrenal glands, but can’t mobilize my heart~~

The Patriot quotes

  • Benjamin Martin: I have seven children. My wife is dead. Now, who's to care for them if I go to war?

Col. Harry Burwell: Wars are not fought only by childless men.

  • Lord General Cornwallis: This is not the conduct of a gentleman!

Benjamin Martin: If the conduct of your officers is the measure of a gentleman, then I'll take that as a compliment.
