Transnational production and English performances are flaws. You can't expect a script written by a French to be translated into English, and then by a Swedish German under the guidance of a Finnish director, to be able to perform freely? The Queen's otherwise dramatic historical material has been treated mediocrely. You can praise the art director, the high-end, clear Nordic scenery and the beautifully detailed costumes are a plus. A lot of times, this movie is reminiscent of Orlando, but it's a minus again compared to Orlando.
The friendship between Descartes and the queen is so cold, what the hell is Descartes' contribution to anatomy? Audiences who are not familiar with the dispute between Lutheranism and the Catholic Church will find it difficult to get the main contradiction in the play.
The Queen's sexuality was pointed out this time. But, with the great Garbo up front, it looks like a reluctant softcore.
