When we look at the small shed in the backyard from a bird's eye view, you will find that it is actually the word "prisoner".
What is more painful than being blinded is acquired blindness. Because the former has never seen the blue of the sky, the white of the clouds, and the green of the grass, while the latter has fallen from the colorful to the darkness. This is the so-called "pain of gain and loss."
For the boy, this room is the world, and the world is the room. It's like a newborn chick chasing a passing cat and dog, because for them, the first thing they see is their parents. The boy was born and grew up here, and all his life experiences and memories are entangled in this room. For boys, it is neither dark nor cramped, nor does it feel like a cage. Because he has never felt warm and light, broad and free. Without comparison, naturally there will be no gap. And there will be no anxiety, anxiety and fear caused by the gap.
For mothers, the opposite is true. She was born under the light and grew up in freedom, and all the memories related to happiness are deeply rooted outside the door. And inside the door, this room, was filled with only the fear of waiting for violation and the pain of being violated every day. If there is no boy, without this last trace of comfort and hope, her ending will be numbness and destruction. This is why the mother would rather die than the "father" touching the boy. She didn't want this last purity to be tarnished, and the last hope turned into ashes. But at the same time, the pathological desire for freedom tortured her heart all the time. Since she was only 17 years old when she was imprisoned and violated, the mother’s mental age seems to have been stuck at 17 years due to the dual effects of isolation from the outside world and the self-protection mechanism of the spiritual world. Whether it is ignoring the boy who has no food, or the desperate escape plan after the uncontrollable outbreak. Fortunately, the bet was won.
Purely from the sense of rhythm, the climax of the whole film is the scene where the boy escapes and the police find the "cage". The boy was taken out of the cage called the room and put into the cage called the carpet. In this new cage, he saw the sky, leaves, roads, and touched the soil and wind for the first time. The boy's confusion, shock and anxiety are undoubtedly revealed in a shot from the middle shot to the close-up with the boy as the main body. (This film should indeed be declared to the boy as the actor) Under the forced request of his mother, the boy finally opened the door of the room and helped his mother to open the door as well. This climax also ended with the mother and son calling "open the door" on both sides of the car window. Finally, the door opened and the two embraced and cried.
If the first half of the movie is about how to open the door of that room, the second half is about how to open the door of the two people's hearts.
Before the first door opened, the boy was the one who feared the most. This fear stems from the unknown fear and the collapse of the known world. So he chose the most direct and the only way he could choose: I won't listen! After the first door was opened, this fear was gradually replaced by restlessness and curiosity. When all the sense organs such as eyes, ears, nose and mouth are delivering unheard and unseen information to him, the most primitive anxiety and curiosity gradually evolve into acceptance and integration under the active guidance of the outside (such as grandpa) and passive influence. This is also due to the age of the boy, as the doctor said, "it is still plastic." Never had it before, so everything is brand new. Even the curiosity and strange vision of the world is brand new in his eyes and feels no discomfort.
After the first door opened, the one who feared most was the mother. The source of this fear is also once possessed. She had owned everything outside the door, so when she owned it again, the sense of isolation brought about by the seven years of imprisonment instantly transformed into mental restlessness and ups and downs. The psychological world and painful memories still staying in the 17-year-old made her unable to resolve this anxiety on her own. And the question in the media that she never thought about or thought about but subconsciously avoided, turned into the last straw to fall-"The boy had a chance to be free, why would you give up this opportunity?"
Why would I give up ? This opportunity?
Unable to answer his inner torture, death became the only choice.
After walking once on the edge of death, the physical weakness dilutes the mental anxiety to a certain extent. At the same time, the boy's rapid integration into the world gradually eliminated the devastating impact of that problem. The dual power of maternal resuscitation and the universal sprouting technique also eliminates the negative effects of the sense of isolation.
The movie end mother and son enter the room again and bid farewell to the room. For the boy, it is bidding farewell to the birthplace, and for the mother, it is opening the second door in his heart. Maybe sometimes I still dream of people and things that I don't want to dream of, but my heart will never be imprisoned by that door again.
