"No one can be strong alone"

The story happened again in the perverted United States. If the Chinese media reported this incident, it would be: "A seventeen-year-old girl was abducted and imprisoned for 7 years, and she successfully escaped after giving birth to a child at the age of 5." The first half of the film tells the life of the imprisoned mother and son (so sure to be a boy) and the ins and outs of the imprisonment, interspersed with the story of "how wonderful the outside world is" knitted by the mother for his son Jack. The second half talked about facing the family after escaping and facing one's own reaction. The escape scene in the middle is even more thrilling, coupled with the soundtrack of This Will Destroy You, it is even more memorable. This is the outline of the whole movie, but when you think about it carefully, the title "Room" is worthy of scrutiny, and the most exciting part of the movie is that Jack, with a slightly timid tone, poetically expresses the cruelty of this world.

The room here is defined as a closed space, a world isolated from the outside world, that is, the inner world and the outer world. So in today's general environment, this room is the world we live in. It has a bed, a TV, and a toilet. There are everything that a room should have. However, the only thing lacking is the freedom to know the truth. My mother didn’t have the courage to say to her son, son, I was raped, that’s why I have you; I also didn’t have the courage to say, son, we are imprisoned, and we are finished; my mother does not want to tell her the truth, and is afraid that his son will be hurt, so Use lies and fairy tales to deceive his son until the day of Jack's fifth birthday...
Looking at it this way, this is the world we live in. The world in which I live is so small, and I use the media or others to understand the outside world outside of me. In this way, like Jack, living in a fictitious world. Lies are fiction, and truth is reality. In today's world, there are fewer and fewer opportunities to understand the truth. It's really not free.
So, until Jack’s fifth birthday, her mother felt that she shouldn’t cheat like this, so she told Jack the truth. Jack was stunned right away, and then became irritable and yelled at his mother, saying that she was a liar. It is indeed difficult for a five-year-old child to break his previous imagination of the outside world.
Therefore, the first half of the film is a process of breaking the fictional world and accepting reality. Only by facing the truth bravely can we truly lead to freedom. However, it is difficult to break the fictional world and accept the real world.

Well, I have talked so much, but I haven't talked about the main point yet.

In this movie room, I think what I want to show most is the human atrium.
To escape that room, for mother, that is freedom, that is, to return to the original life, to return to the trajectory of one's life. However, the seven-year jet lag did not make her wish. She thought she would be able to return to her original life. In fact, her parents had already divorced, and her friends had not been in contact for many years and there was no news. She had transitioned from being an 18-year-old girl to being a mother directly, and she didn't know what to do.
For Jack, he broke into a brand new world like a baby, waiting for him in a world more dangerous than the room, or a world made up by his mother? All of this depends on your atrium. Whether or not one's inner heart is strong enough to accept the real outside world depends on the response of one's inner heart to changes in the external environment.
Except for the little boy's acting skills, the phrase "We all help each other stay strong. No one is strong alone" said by grandma in the film touched me. Indeed, no one can be strong alone. In the film, if Jack hadn't come to this world, his mother might have been imprisoned to death forever. Had it not been for Jack's encouragement to his mother after escaping from prison, her mother would have long been unable to hold on. Yes, the mother herself asked herself, "I thought I should be happy when I returned to life, but I couldn't do it anyway." Because the mother did not respond and adjust in time, and was not ready to do it. A competent mother, not ready to face herself, not ready to tell her child that he is having trouble, all these make her irritable. No one can be strong alone, so the innocent Jack seems to be more able to adapt to the outside world than his mother. All this makes the mother feel that this is the courage and strength given by the child to make her strong. In the end, both of them seemed to have overcome their inner obstacles and bid farewell to the "room".
Therefore, the second half of the movie is a process of accepting changes in the heart due to the environment.

The outside world is wonderful and dangerous. I would like to give you one of my broken ones so that I can be by your side at any time. I am also willing to cut off my long and send it to you to make you stronger. Is there anything more romantic than this mother and son.

Only by saying goodbye to the past bravely can we better embrace the rest of my life. It is still the deep love that escapes reality and returns to reality, breaking the fictional world and leading to freedom.

Room quotes

  • Old Nick: What's that smell?

Ma: Sorry, I burned some cheese. Here. I just wasn't thinking.

Old Nick: Well, thinking is not your strong suit.

  • Ma: [about the mouse] He's on the other side of this wall.

    Jack: What other side?

Ma: Jack, there's two sides to everything.

    Jack: Not on an octagon.

    Ma: Yeah, but...

Jack: [Interrupts] An octagon has eight sides

Ma: But a wall, okay, a wall's like this, see? And we're on the inside and mouse is on the outside.

    Jack: In outer space?

Ma: No, in the world. It's much closer than outer space.

    Jack: I can't see the outside-side.

Ma: Listen, I know that I told you something else before, but you were much younger. I didn't think that you could understand, but now you're so old, you're so smart. I know that you can get this. Where do you think that old Nick gets our food?

    Jack: From TV by magic!
