The Space-Time Logic of Tomorrowland

The Space-Time Logic of

Tomorrowland The topic of Tomorrowland is quite deceptive. Halfway through the movie, I realized that the little boy did not travel to the future, but just traveled to a parallel world. Therefore, the name Tomorrowland is only derived from Disney's Tomorrowland theme park.

The time and space logic of time and space movies is very important, which is the foundation of the whole article, and everyone also has their own time and space views. My understanding of time and space travel has been basically finalized after movies such as "Time and Space Clue", "Butterfly Effect", "Time and Space Crime", and time and space travel should be said to be a kind of feedback, and its changes are complex and reasonable.

The movie doesn't actually travel through time and space, just a machine that can detect the future. The principle of the machine is on the surface that it is a superluminal particle that can detect the future. I personally think it is a kind of supercomputer that calculates the future development according to all the current conditions (although such a supercomputer may not be possible. exist). It doesn't matter, we just assume that a machine can predict the future based on the facts of the present.

Then there is a problem, when the machine detects the future and presents it to people to see, the person's thoughts change, and the future also changes, so the machine's prediction is not accurate. However, the machine in the movie obviously sees this and takes itself into account, that is, just now the machine (let's set it as machine A) calculated the future of the Earth without future probes, and now the machine (let's set it as machine A) Machine B) has detected a future of Earth with a future probe, apparently Machine A. The future has changed again. This machine keeps calculating, and this machine keeps calculating the future feedback. Finally, in a certain cycle, the balance has been reached, the feedback has reached the balance, and the future has been stabilized.
Anyone who has studied circuits knows that if a negative feedback or positive feedback is added to the circuit, the balance will be achieved almost instantaneously, so there will be no intermediate state.

Following this logic, several future detections in the movie can be explained.
(1) The future detector detects the destruction of the world, and a steady state of the future detector is to detect the future destruction, and the future is really destroyed. Occasionally a bright future can be detected, but this is not a steady state, and an occasional bright future cannot change the current general trend.

(2) Future Phantom detects that the hat is flying. This is normal, it may not have been feedback, and it will be stable once.

(3) Phantom of the future tells Casey how to start the bomb. This is obviously the result of multiple feedbacks. This is the only steady state. If it is detected that she does not move at all or uses the wrong starting method in the future, she will definitely not follow the situation at that time. Only when it is detected that she uses the correct method If the bomb is activated and the bomb responds, she will follow it, so as to achieve a steady state.

(4) The future phantom detected that Frank was killed, and the little robot saved him and changed the future. This is the only two situations in the film that change the future, the other being the main line of the film.

The system predicts the future and reaches a steady state, why does the future change over time? I think a possible explanation is that the computing power of this future detector is limited, or there are factors outside the system. The subjective initiative of humans or robots is somewhat unpredictable and can exceed the upper limit of humans. In the movie, the persistent efforts of several protagonists made a ray of light in the darkness, and the emotional system generated by the little robot cannot be calculated by any future detector. How can the machine fully calculate the human? ? Man is not just a collection of many particles, but there is also a wonderful thing hidden in it, such as a soul.
The same logic as above can also explain many time-travel movies. The moment you travel to the past, what you are about to do must match your memory, and the moment you plan to change the future, your memory will change. This is why you go back to the past to kill your grandfather, and you will fail due to various accidents. This is a steady state.
By the way, I would like to recommend the movie "Time and Space Sin", its review is an important foundation of my time and space view.

Perhaps the expectations were high. Looking at the trailer, I thought that Disney could come up with a good sci-fi film, but it turned out to be a sub-standard Disney-only live-action cartoon fantasy promotional film for children. The plot from the beginning to the end of 20 minutes is full of grooves, except for the Eiffel Tower, Disney has no innovation, and the people who read the lines are drowsy. However, it is recommended that kindergarten children can visit in groups. Disney should still make good animations.

Similarly, the visual effect is very prominent. It ended Hugh Laurie to death. . . Very dissatisfied. . .

Tomorrowland quotes

  • [last lines]

Casey Newton: [voice over] First order of business... get the door back open. Couldn't hurt to get a few experienced engineers over here. Next...

Frank Walker: [voice over] Put the party back on... and print out some new invitations.

[Now cut to Frank and Casey speaking in front of an audience of androids like Athena]

Frank Walker: Which brings us to why we're here today. A year ago, it was all supposed to be over... we shouldn't even be here, but we are. It isn't hard to knock down a big, evil building that's telling everybody that the world's going to end. What is hard... is figuring out what to build in its place, and if we're going to do that... we can't do it alone. We're going to need all of you...

Young British Recruiter: [raises his hand] Frank Walker. May I ask a question?

    Frank Walker: Sure!

Young British Recruiter: The search parameters you've given us, while mathematically sound, are a bit... undefined. Could you be more specific, please?

Frank Walker: Well, Miss Newton. You want to tell our recruiters what they're looking for?

Casey Newton: Dreamers... we are looking for dreamers. Anyone who will feed the right wolf.

[start handing out cases of Tomorrowland buttons]

Frank Walker: So... I once told your predecessor that she was nothing but a combination of ones and zeroes. I was wrong. She was much more than that. You are much more than that, too. So, go out there and do she would've done. Find the ones who haven't given up. They're the future.

  • Athena: There are things I need to tell you before the final... before the automated program kicks in. I'm a machine, I never thought that was bad until I saw your face when you found out I was.

    Frank Walker: I always knew...

    Athena: No you didn't...

Computer Voice: Systems failing. Activating last thoughts saved for Frank Walker.

    [Voice-Over]

Athena: Log 15. September. 1965. Frank Walker is looking at me in a manner that is difficult to recognize. It seems imperative to explain to him that I'm an audio-animatronic...

    Frank Walker: Athena...

Athena: ...But I'm concerned that he may be adversely affected when he finds out that I'm not human. He has potential. I don't want to damage it. He needs someone to believe in him and I am fulfilling that need. He's my top recruit. Log 24. October. 1965. I'm having unusual thoughts towards Frank Walker. I suspect a flaw in my empathy interface. I'm thinking I should report it... but I haven't. I cannot explain why. Log 78. April. 1984. Frank Walker has been banished by Governor Nix. He says he's lost hope and he holds me responsible for having given it to him in the first place. I do not understand this. He says I never will, because I do not feel anger... or disappointment... or love.

    Computer Voice: End recording.

Athena: I was designed to find dreamers... I found you... and lost you. But I found her... Casey. Dreamers need to stick together. It's not programming, it's personal.
