The theme is clear and simple, about whether Prot is an alien or not. While Dr. Powell struggles to find Prot's past, Prot affects his patients in a very human way in the hospital and with surprising results. It made Dr. Powell never believe his words to as if he had to prove that he wasn't trying to convince himself. The main creator has set three main points to advance the plot. 1. Prot's knowledge of the planets near Lyra makes astronomers dare not comment on his alien identity (it's really kind that the astronomers didn't arrest him for research or lock him up in captivity), And even based on this, Powell still can't convince himself of the possibility that Prot is an alien (maybe for a neurologist to be rich in astronomy does not prove that you are not a lunatic, you are just a lunatic with rich astronomical knowledge). At the same time, Prot's influence on other patients in the hospital is increasing, and it even seems to actually affect their conditions. There are really some people in the hospital who are happy and some worry about this situation. 2. Prot's claim that he's going back to K-Pax is also a foreshadowing of the movie's main climax.
3. Powell invites Prot to his house as a guest.

What is the reason for Dr. Powell to keep all the pressure and keep Prot? Good people? Convinced by Prot's charisma?

Why is Prot obediently staying in the hospital? Like to study patients in the hospital?
