"Run Lola" tells the story of a gangster in Berlin, Germany who lost 100,000 marks of stolen money, and his boss wants to get the money in 20 minutes. The cowardly Manny had to ask his girlfriend Lola for help. In order to raise 100,000 marks in 20 minutes, Lola ran wildly on the way to ask the banker's father for help, running for herself, for Manny, and for love. Different from the previous classic narrative mode in Hollywood, Lola Run uses a three-stage narrative method to describe the three results of Lola running and looking for money to save her boyfriend.
What impresses me most in the movie is the butterfly effect, where the slightest change in the details makes the ending completely different. The first time Lola ran, she didn't raise any money, she could only rob the supermarket with her boyfriend, but Lola was shot dead. Lola ran for the second time and she grabbed money at the bank, but Manny was hit and killed by the ambulance. On the third run, Lola went to the casino to win money, and the stolen money was found. She and Manny got a happy ending. The film makes them happy at the end. But how can life come back again? Any decision you make will have a huge impact. This can also reflect the elusiveness of the world, which is difficult for us to grasp.
The film breaks the traditional idea of popular heroes saving beauty, and has the idea of feminism. In the film, the cowardly boyfriend Manny can only ask his girlfriend for help, and Lola's bright red hair running on the empty street impressed us deeply. She seems to be a person full of magical powers. She won 100,000 marks in the casino with 99.2 marks. She is tireless and always runs on the road to save her boyfriend. This is the feminist idea expressed in the film. In the film, the mother does not have to go to work during the day, and the father bullies his father when he comes home at night. Male bank clerks are treated like livestock by female clerks. In the ambulance, the able-bodied man tried his best to give artificial respiration to the patient, but the patient was still dying, and the miracle happened when Lola's hand was on the patient's hand. Women are full of power, times are changing, and the status of men and women has also changed.
The film uses a lot of montage techniques. The director uses subtitles, narration and camera switching skills to let us follow those little characters. For example, in the scene at the crossroads, in the surging crowd, several secondary characters in the film appeared one after another: a female clerk, a woman pushing a cart, a boy who stole a car... The scene gradually normalized and finally ended. On to the bank guard, who is a bystander for the entire film. He kicks a football and announces the start of the film. The soccer ball is lifted high, and pedestrians hurriedly passing by the intersection form the subtitles of the film. As the football falls into the tunnel of time and space, switching from one scene to another, this exemplifies the montage technique.
Life is a process of running. Only by running continuously can we reach the other side of success. Facing the almost harsh challenge of raising 100,000 marks in 20 minutes and giving it to her boyfriend, Lola did not back down, but chose to keep running. And we should keep running.
