When American and South Vietnamese ships loaded with refugees arrived in the Philippines, they had to lower all South Vietnamese flags before the refugees could set foot on Philippine soil. Singing the last national anthem and watching the flag flying for the last time on the sea is the saddest and most helpless moment for the South Vietnamese. They wept, and the tears were over, leaving only an empty look.
The story of the film begins when the United States withdraws from Vietnam after the Paris Agreement was signed. Soon the war between North Vietnam and South Vietnam started, and then South Vietnam retreated steadily until North Vietnam finally unified the whole territory. In the oppressive situation of NATO troops approaching Saigon, the film highlights the contrast between the indifference of the US government and the spontaneous humanitarian behavior of US soldiers and ambassadors. The country is based on interests as the principle of action, without human emotional factors, so-called politics is often ruthless.
Recently, under the general trend of global anti-terrorism, there have been frequent incidents of firefights between Russia and Turkey, and the secret actions of the United States have inevitably made people worry about peace that has been rare for a long time. Human nature is self-interest, and the state system that represents the will of different people magnifies the self-interested nature. Therefore, in wars between the two countries, there is often no right or wrong, only success or failure.
As ordinary soldiers and people under war, the fierce confrontation with the country as a whole presents a clear contrast. They have no deep hatred for each other. Maybe on a peaceful day, they can drink tea and fish together and talk about trivial life. But they were held hostage to the moral high ground by national justice and national honor, and they could only become a member of the cannon fire.
The selfless rescue of the American soldiers to the South Vietnamese in the film has become a blazing color in that black era, but it is only a short-lived, and in the current world situation, it can only be a short-lived.
When I read The Three-Body Problem, I had a deep memory of a set of theories in the book. It basically said that if aliens invaded the earth, no matter how long it took from the beginning of receiving this information to the actual invasion, the interior of the earth would definitely split, and Non-uniform defense against foreign enemies.
It is equally appropriate to place this point of view in a film. Humans may help each other and love each other, but it will not form a long-term steady state. When you understand this, you won't be too pessimistic about everything. After accepting the essence of human nature, we will cherish and appreciate the warmth and peace of those fragments.
