Compared with "Maze Runner 1", I feel that the second part lacks some excitement, which is obviously to pave the way for the third part. Escape became the main theme of the little fresh meat, followed by the pursuit of Jensen and other medical laboratory personnel, before the zombies ambushed in the dunes, and one of the little friends has died. Even if it is a stumbling escape, someone must stand up. Thomas has shown his leadership in the first part. In the second season, he led everyone to escape together. He has a more low-key personality and pays more attention to the relationship with his friends. Teamwork plays the role of backbone.
Perhaps, I can regard the plot of "Maze Runner 2" as the American version of "Run, Brother", because Thomas and his friends are running throughout the film. Although "Maze Runner 2" is only a transitional bridge, the development of the plot is compact enough, but it throws out all the mysteries and questions, and there are no answers to all of them, which makes people feel that they are still unfinished and not enough to quench their thirst.
Whether it's rushing out of the lab, or escaping a zombie ambush in the dunes, escaping in the dark, Thomas shows his all-roundness. He can play different roles in many positions according to the needs of the team, and which role needs him, he can appear in time, just like a light in the dark. In Thomas, there is less arrogance of Ling Xiao of the young strong faction, and more calm and decisiveness of the mature faction. Effective tactical execution has become the key for Thomas to lead his friends to escape successfully. You can think of him as Deng Chao who runs the men's team. As long as Thomas stands up, any opponent's defense will be overwhelmed, because Thomas' explosiveness is definitely more aggressive than the first season. Of course, Theresa suddenly rebelled at the end of the film, which was a twist in the plot of the ordinary development, and also laid the foundation for the climax of the third part.
Perhaps dystopia is the biggest highlight of the film, that is their yearning for an ideal life, their desire for freedom and liberation, to try their best to live their lives, and to pursue an ideal social realm. They never gave up on that goal, and we sweated for them while watching the movie.
