My memory is wrong , I hope you forgive me) 1. Ask Zhang Yi: How do you understand the role of Zhang Jinsheng?
A: Personally, I like the third part the most. Although I have very few scenes in this part, there are many details in it. Our movie is called "The Old Man of Mountains and Rivers". In 2025, Zhang Jinsheng is thinking of mountains and rivers and his old friends. There are two old friends, one is his ex-wife Tao'er, and the other is his love rival Liangzi. Zhang Jinsheng bought a lot of guns and put them all on the table, but he said he couldn't find an enemy. In fact, he missed Liang Zi in this way, because he wanted to kill him back then. But maybe Liangzi is no longer there.
2. Ask Jia Zhangke: There is a clip in the film where Tao’er rides a bicycle and suddenly sees the plane crashing. This section looks very surreal. What is Director Jia’s intention?
A: Well, this clip is indeed a bit surreal, what I want to express is the accident and chance of life. In fact, when I was writing this script, there was no such scene in the beginning. The overall style of the script is still relatively life-like, although the opening is very dramatic, it is a triangular relationship, and the usual movies are also handled in this way. After I finish writing, I always feel that something is missing. I think it is an accident in life. People always encounter some things beyond their own experience and understanding. This may be a layer of meaning I want to express.
3. Ask Jia Zhangke: In my opinion, the kiss scene between Zhang Aijia and Dong Zijian may actually be an Oedipus complex that lacks maternal love. What do you think?
A: In addition to the Oedipus complex, I think it is more about two lonely people warming each other and liberating themselves. The son can't communicate with his father, he wants to drop out of school, and he wants to go back to China to find his mother but has nowhere to go. The teacher is wandering in a foreign country, so naturally the two get closer and closer, which is reasonable.
After I wrote the script, I showed it to Zhang Aijia before I said: This script may be a bit beyond ethics. Unexpectedly, Zhang Aijia said: OK, no problem, I will act. Then I gave the script to Xiao Dong, told him that there was such a scene with Zhang Aijia, and asked him if he could accept it. He said: What is unacceptable, Jia Dao, you are too backward, now our gender is not a problem, what is age.
4. Ask Jia Zhangke: At the end of the movie, you still didn’t let Tao’er mother and son reunite. In fact, the audience is looking forward to seeing them reunite. What do you think?
A: Actually, there are a lot of blanks in this movie, such as whether the mother and son met, what happened to Liang Zi in the end, why Jin Sheng and Tao Er divorced, and what happened from 2014 to 2025. And in the end, Tao'er made a lot of dumplings, obviously she couldn't finish it all by herself, she was waiting for others to come back to eat together. All to leave more space.
5. Ask Zhao Tao: You have acted in so many films directed by Jia, have you ever thought about acting in films by other directors?
A: Actors are all waiting, waiting for them to perform roles that have grown. The role of Tao spanned decades and gave me a different life experience. So as an actor I will play until old age and look forward to various roles.
