It's a pity it wasn't made into a silent film

The heroine has the charm and temperament of the silent film era, and sometimes makes me see the shadow of Edith Piaf, a generation of singers. The fledgling performance of the male protagonist Denis Lavant made people laugh. It is no exaggeration to say that it is Stephen Chow's grandfather. The exaggerated facial expressions and body language portrayed a young Parisian in the 1980s. It's a pity that Karax's debut feature film was not made into a silent film, perhaps because of the disdain to compare it with Luc Besson's silent debut "Battle of Fire" at the same time! The way of expression continues the essence of many new waves, such as the long shot of a man and a woman in the kitchen, and this method has been extended to his later works. But what I admire most is his (inadvertently) captures of life in France in the 1980s: tap dancing, rock and roll, vinyl, typewriters, phone booths, subway stations, etc., in an abundance of detail that makes for a fairly believable reality The atmosphere, coupled with a few remarkable dream scenes, is enough to make this debut work shine with moving brilliance.
