At first, I thought it was a heavy educational and reflective film, and then I was relieved that it was a romantic, legendary French film. Everything in the camera is so beautiful. The ending is because I know this history and many movie descriptions. I don't feel unexpected but it is also infinitely regretful. It is a very good French-style work.
