I sincerely enjoyed the movie. So much so I even came close to tears at several points of it. The movie is packed with tinny witty touches. Prehistorical status of the sky, distinct ancient creature, and the very fact that Methuselah died at exactly the same year the flood broke out, which is not straightforwardly stated in the bible but can only be deducted based on careful calculation of the biblical timeline. All these details blows me away. The dress style was a bit modern, but still within reason. And if you are no stranger with the Old Testimony, take notice of the fact that, meat was never on the menu of Noah's family until the end of the flood, when it was officially bestowed on men by God himself. Several non-biblical subtleties were also neatly settled. The role Tubal-Cain played as a craftsman, tribal leader and warrior was both convincing and imposing. The Angles were aa bit abrupt, but come to think of it, their existence might be necessary to both smooth the human industrialization plot, and to make the depraved mankind feel even more destructive and devastating. The story of Illa and Na'al, wife and should-be wife of Sham and Ham fits the bible lore, if not compliments it. The most impressive part of the film for me, is the CHOICE that Noah has to make carrying both the burden of saving the earth and the of the love for his family. Look at the man, one just can't help sympathizing with his inner struggle. Emma Watson gave a exceptional performance as Noah's daughter in law especially in the scene where she was compelled to behold her own children's impending death. Some of the conservative Christians would argue that the movie lack consistency with the original scriptures. yet there is no denial that this film breathed new life to an old story, which I simply can't get enough. On the other end, this movie is highly religion-contextual. Thus I'm not entirely surprised that most of my nonchristian friends found the movie tedious, superstitious and lengthy. For them it was like a lecture that entailed too much details but too little credibility. Verdict: The movie is a must-see if you deem yourself as ancient times history buff or a devoted christian. Can't believe you have read this far, my grammar is unbearable for many?On the other end, this movie is highly religion-contextual.
