Gandhi called on the world, it is Civilized way to face the world. Yes, violence often has immediate results, but doing so means bloodshed. You might say, I've had enough, I'm not afraid of bloodshed. But such hostile behavior is a step backward, a manifestation of human beings returning to barbarism. This is not civilization.
The situation in India at the time was that there were 350 million natives under the rule of 100,000 British people, and this movement of non-violence and non-cooperation certainly worked. After the partition of India and Pakistan, Gandhi was assassinated and died at the hands of Hindus. This shows that mankind has not progressed to the stage of rationality and civilization, which is the tragedy of mankind.
