Review Ghost Mom Coraline

The first time I watched this film was a stormy night in my second year of high school. The atmosphere at that time and the weirdness of the film were really cool. Because "The Box Monster" was advertised as having something to do with this film, I revisited it again today on this sunny afternoon, and I still watched it very deeply. It is said that the original work is darker, but after all, it is to be made into an animation. In order to make it acceptable to children, some bright elements have to be added. But even with brisk music, it's hard to resist the gloom brought by the gray and rainy pictures, weird characters, and fantastic imagination. Stop-motion animation can create such a lovely and scary atmosphere, a perfect match for dark fairy tales.

Another little girl related to door and loneliness. I hate what happens when there are bad guys in cartoons.

It's really a ghost, and after watching it, I know it's a new work by the director of The Nightmare Before Christmas, no wonder it's so familiar

Coraline quotes

  • Coraline Jones: [on the "Other" Mother] Why does she want me?

Cat: She wants something to love, I think. Something that isn't her. Or, maybe she'd just love something to eat.

Coraline Jones: Eat? That's ridiculous, mothers don't eat... daughters.

Cat: I don't know. How do you taste?

    [chuckles]

  • Other Mother: They say even the proudest spirit can be broken... with love.
