After watching this horror movie with a score of 7.6 in the middle of the night, I also read some comments, and I also want to say some of my own understanding.

Since it's a Western movie, I'm not sure if the movie is about exorcism or psychology. But I'm still rather biased. So I want to write my own thoughts.

It doesn't matter ghosts and gods, first organize your thoughts.

The mother is a children's writer. Seven years ago, her husband died in a car accident while giving birth to her son. The son was born. So far, a seed has been planted in my heart.

Let’s talk about my mother first. On the one hand, facing the death of my husband, I feel very sad, and the death of my beloved makes me unbearable. On the other hand, her son is also the only driving force in her life. The two feelings are intertwined with each other. So that the personality split gradually occurred. In the dark night, facing the death of her husband, she hated her son, because the son died of her husband. In the daytime, she is a kind-hearted and knowledgeable mother.

Let's talk about the son, because the mother is a children's writer, it is estimated that babadook is written by her, so that the son has been infused in this subject since he was a child, causing the son to believe that there are monsters. Coupled with the mother's sometimes abnormal behavior at night, the son has a violent tendency, although only to protect his mother. But the behavior of the son makes the mother often excluded, such as in the school, the aunt's house, the community personnel, and hate the son more and more in the dark subconscious.

Over time, finally the neighbor's grandma's words became the last straw that broke the camel's back. The mother completely collapsed, and the two personalities began to fight fiercely, loving the son and hating the son. (The son of love is replaced by the first personality, and the son of love is replaced by the second personality) It broke out completely overnight. On the one hand, she wanted to kill her son in exchange for her husband, but another personality did not allow her to do so. In the end, the confession of the neighbor's grandmother made her first personality temporarily dominate and regained her short-term sanity. But the son knew that it was only temporary. The son helped Mama and woke her up with love. In the end, the mother spit out a ball of black water, which represented that the second personality was completely stripped out.

But it didn't end there, babadook ran into the compartment instead of disappearing. This actually tells us that the second personality has not completely disappeared. It's just blocked. The husband who loves him deeply will never go away no matter what, and he will follow him all his life. It's just that it's completely under control now. Occasionally go to feed, which represents my longing. He and his son live a normal life.

Well, this is my understanding. It's 6:00 in the morning, I haven't slept yet, my thoughts are a little messy, and I wrote some things in a mess. Overall, a good movie. Recommended.

The Babadook quotes

  • Amelia: [Samuel comes out from hiding and Amelia shrieks like a banshee. Amelia starts approaching Samuel, but he starts wetting himself.] You little pig. Six years old and you're still wetting yourself. You don't know how many times I wished it was you, not him, that died.

Samuel: I just wanted you to be happy.

Amelia: [mocking Samuel] I just want you to be happy. Sometimes I just want to smash your head against the brick wall until your fucking brains pop out.

Samuel: [softly] You're not my mother.

    Amelia: What did you say?

Samuel: I said you're not my mother!

    Amelia: I AM YOUR MOTHER!

  • Samuel: It wasn't me, Mum! The Babadook did it!
