In an interview after the end of "THE L WORD", the director (whose creators are almost all women) talked about the show creative motivation. She said that at that time (2002) the United States already had a series about gays and lesbians, but there was no corresponding series about the life of lesbians, so they decided to create this first. In fact, they were also very successful. I just finished watching the first season last year. It was probably around 2003. Now that more than ten years have passed, when you look back at these works that have been lying in the river of history, good or bad, it's easy to get confused. distinguish. And I think the first season of THE L WORD, both in terms of its quality as one of the tens of thousands of American shows, in terms of its contribution to the history of lesbians, in terms of meaning, It's the kind of show that will go down in history. And the history of homosexuality, which is becoming more and more diverse today, can no longer be eliminated from human history. In other words, the history of mankind will inevitably include the history of homosexuality, and when it comes to the history of homosexuality, it will definitely talk about this drama. And what moved me the most was that in the interview, the director also mentioned the role of a transgender who they added in the third season, because some audiences responded, don’t transgender people deserve attention, and transgender people’s The situation is even worse. So they added a transgender character. In the fourth season, they added a female soldier and a deaf-mute. In turn, think about today's film and television works, especially ours in China. Of course, we also have a few good drama series, but many of them are still stuck in the creation of superheroes who tear devils with their hands. In the United States, more than ten years ago, Homosexuality itself, as a vulnerable group, may not pay attention to the responsibility of other vulnerable groups, but this group has already begun to pay attention to the love needs of disabled persons with same-sex orientation, and the soldiers of same-sex orientation who are discriminated against (because the United States had a default dismissal at that time). gay soldier policy) love needs. The director's feeling of "we will add what the society lacks", although it will affect the smoothness of the plot, but I really admire it. I think this is what a socially responsible art creator should look like.

End————————————Text————
Because I had only seen a few clips in the first episode before, I took it out of context and thought it was a lousy drama that sold meat to attract audiences. Thankfully I didn't miss it in the end, even though it's now 10 years since the show came out.
There are a few scenes that I am particularly impressed with.
One is the scene where Ivan dances to Kit in love.
Because I don't like T-types very much. Ivan's appearance is very masculine in dress, body, and beard on his face. I even judged that he must be the kind of T who takes testosterone. The marginalized people in this marginalized group will be ostracized by others in society. And I don't understand Ivan's feelings for Kit either. Kit is not good-looking, fat, black, stupid, and fragile. He can't get along well with his father, sister, and son. So Ivan's sudden love for Kit, I can only understand that loser loves loser. But in the last scene where Ivan dances to show his love, when Leonard Cohen's music pops up, Ivan slowly dances next to Kit while singing I'm Your Man, and I'm suddenly fascinated by Ivan too. Suddenly I don't dislike her fake beard anymore, I suddenly feel that she looks so good-looking, and suddenly I feel that she is really in love with Kit. I have to jump out of the play and admire this actor's acting really well.
There are also two scenes about Tina's miscarriage, which I also think handled particularly well.
One is that Bette was viciously cursed by traditional religious people for supporting the exhibition of trendy art, and her boss also confronted her. After returning home, she learned that Tina had a miscarriage. She hadn't hugged Tina, who was crying for two minutes, and heard the commotion outside the door. She went out and saw that people who opposed the exhibition had nailed insulting signs on their doorsteps. After driving them away, she returned to the house and slowly pulled the curtain down. It was dark and her back was facing the camera. We couldn't see her expression, but we could clearly see her bowing slightly and her shoulders shaking. However, after less than three seconds, she turned around, looking like she had no expression, and walked towards Tina who was crying in the bedroom without hesitation.
The second is a subsequent episode, where Bette debates the leading figures opposed to the art exhibition in person. Before the debate, this character had attacked Bette privately, to the effect that your baby died prematurely. Seriously, would you cry for this child as a shameless and morally corrupt person like you. Bette was strong, almost cold-blooded, and she didn't answer the question. We all saw how sad she was at the time, but she didn't say anything, and even when Tina who was present suddenly looked at her in a daze, she didn't defend herself.
No one expected this to be a foreshadowing.
When Bette and this character confronted each other on the TV show, Bette had a clear and strong chance of winning, but the other party attacked Bette's pain point, Bette suddenly collapsed, and could no longer be calm, and could not show her vulnerability in front of her lover. She cried on a live show.
Really great drama conflict.
And then there's the scene in the last episode called Angry Sex. But before that, Bette's cheating needs to be understood. I find it hard to make sense of Bette's infidelity. We know that, firstly, Bette loves Tina deeply and has no emotional reason to cheat; secondly, Bette is a person with super positive views, probably the most positive of all the characters, so she can't cheat on the grounds of her conduct. And if there is no reason for the derailment and the characters are derailed, the audience will feel that the screenwriter is incompetent and the plot is far-fetched.
And I actually understand Bette's cheating. Like the two scenes I said before, she was under too much pressure, from those conservative religious people, from the boss, from the baby who died, and from the partner who was fragile and needed to take care of herself, her character was like that ——She wants to play a reliable strong man when Tina is vulnerable. So cheating with the carpenter, not because of sex, not because of love, just because you can escape from the real world for a while. So in the last Angry Sex, she cried while pressing Tina, you have to believe, I love you, I love you like this. Even words could not express her emotions at all, she was almost desperate to finish this love. And TIna was the one who was forced, but suddenly became the one who took the initiative. I watched the interview of Tina's actor for this scene later. She said that Tina's "inviting" Bette into her act was more like a "final authorization", because Tina knew that the two were going to break up, and she She loves Bette so much again, what else can she do... When the two of them were lying on the bed in a desperate embrace, the camera seemed to fall on their hands inadvertently. It was a ring. In the end, Damien Rice's music played slowly, and everything was as perfect as the scene that Ivan confessed.
The director said that on the day the scene was filmed, she was depressed all day. Bette's actor said the scene was one of her favorites.
There are also several funny episodes. Alice and Dana are responsible for the laughs throughout the show. There are also some flaws. But all in all, the screenwriter, director, and actors of this play have done a very attentive, conscientious and classic work. The 2004 drama is no worse than the current drama at all.

I like Xiaolu so much. After watching all six seasons, I noticed that every time Tina hugged Bette, she would unconsciously touch B's head, like coaxing a puppy. She received Bette's protection and was full of love for Bette.
Xiaolu is too gentle, too gentle, too gentle... with gentle eyes, gentle voice, and gentle appearance. I'm getting drunk.
