"Moving Labyrinth": Unbreakable mode, unbreakable predicament

The original name of the movie was Maze Runner, but it was actually literally translated as Maze Runner, which I think is more intuitive and appropriate. Although there is nothing wrong with translating into a moving maze, after all, the main prop of the film is a maze that "moves", but the word "moving" is a bit deceptive. The audience will think that this film is purely about escape rooms in the maze scene. The thriller film was thus deceived into the theater. More importantly, the title of Moving Labyrinth has changed the main body in the original name of the movie, and also concealed the implicit metaphor in the original title.
For the maze walker, the focus is on the "walker". From the movie, they are carefully selected experimental subjects, just like the group of most talented and intellectual children on earth in "Ander's Game". The protagonist and the crowd are the hope for the future. It must be selected and cultivated at various levels, and finally a few people who can but take the important task stand out. The labyrinth is an experimental place for this group of walkers, selection projects. It is undeniable that the labyrinth does exist. These protagonists indeed live in the center of a labyrinth. They must try their best to escape from the labyrinth. But the appearance is not enough. The term maze has something deeper: it represents a kind of adversity, dilemma-not only the actual surrounding environment, but also a person's psychological environment.
Let's review the rules of the game in Experimental Site A: Every month, a person will be sent to the site with some basic supplies, and their ultimate goal is to escape the maze. Then from the first person who is lonely and fearful but actively seeks to survive, to more and more people enter the central venue, a micro-society will be formed. There are also various rules that bind this society. However, we can see that due to the differences between individuals, this group of people has gradually formed two groups: practitioners and non-walkers-this represents people who want to escape and settle for the status quo. Two people who did not have a clear political bias became leaders, and the mass council was also exercising power.
Thinking about it carefully, it is understandable that more and more people are content with the status quo, and the rightists—they are too conservative, afraid of change, and finally prevent change—appear naturally. After three years of exploration, they have not found any way out. , This is undoubtedly a huge blow. Even if the leader does not announce to the masses that he has figured out the overall structure of the labyrinth, it is to keep everyone hope of escape, but the invisible hope is always vulnerable to inflammatory words, isn't it?
Therefore, in order to break the deadlock between the left and the right, the entry of a protagonist who is restless, curious, and unstable is undoubtedly the best opportunity to bring about change. However, in addition to artificially leading change, it is also historically normal to change in the opposite direction under the influence of external forces. This is the entry of the heroine who is the last person to enter the maze: she said the hero's name as soon as she came, and brought two medicines that can remove the virus and restore people's memory-forgot to mention one sentence Everyone who entered has been erased from their memory, they will only remember their name a few days after entering, and they don't know anything else. The various incidents after the hero joined and the memory fragments of people who used the medicine have made many people doubt the hero, and it has also intensified the rightist seizure of power. At this time, a change is about to be born, either to the left or to the right.
The ending can be imagined, without the author's words.
It can be seen that "Maze Moving" and "The Hunger Games" are the same as "Divergent", both of which are best-selling sci-fi literary adaptations of dystopian teenagers. However, although these works have a dystopian world setting, they have not discussed and described too much in this regard. After all, they are not serious subjects, nor are they core readings. But all three have the same pattern: a seemingly stable society, a rebellious protagonist, revolution, especially the moving maze and the Hunger Games-both have a game-like survival test.
Although the content is not as profound as "The Hunger Games", the film still has many highlights: for example, the rhythm, compared to the large-scale foreshadowing of The Hunger Games, the film can be described as straight to the topic. Without too much nonsense, briefly introduce the characters, explain the situation of the protagonist, and introduce the contradictions between the characters, and then enter the content that the audience who walks through the maze most want to see. In the process, the film keeps throwing out clues to deepen everyone's guesses and thinking, which helps the audience to watch the film patiently. Until the end, when the protagonist walks out of the maze, the film will reveal the truth to the public, and the audience may "it turned out to be this way" or "had long guessed it would be the case." In short, it might be better to be straightforward than a long story that might be drowsy.
When I mentioned young people's works, the first thing I thought of was Japanese manga. To a large extent, the protagonists are young people. Why do people like to tell stories with young people as the protagonists? I think it's probably because the young people are full of enthusiasm and vigor, they represent a kind of potential, they can grow better. What's more important is that most young people have active thinking and do not follow the rules. And these books are also in line with North American youth political culture, expressing the fledgling teenagers’ concern for politics and their needs for social status. It is foreseeable that in the next few years, this group of small fresh meats is bound to fully conquer the world's big screen.
In fact, I would like to talk a little bit about the creativity of the labyrinth in the movie. I thought it would be a completely random maze, because completely random or nearly random will make every change of the maze unfounded. The passer must make a decision on the spot, so that the maze will be very exciting to escape. Unexpectedly, there are patterns to follow. This is probably to provide clues for the final decryption. However, from the perspective of the characters in the film, this model is fixed in a maze that can be found in just time, but after three years there is still no one to clear the level. The blow to hope and the devastation of spirit are much earlier than a completely random one. Knowing that the unbreakable maze is huge. In particular, there are still rightists who are content with the status quo and are afraid of change, so that the seemingly stable society does not really produce revolution until the protagonist enters, and it is not until three years later that people really want to escape to heaven.
Of course, this maze escape is only part of the experiment, and there will be more and more ruthless mazes waiting for the protagonists in the future. I can even say that as long as the creativity is enough and how many mazes can be designed, this movie can be made as many times as possible.

The Maze Runner quotes

  • Ava Paige: Hello. My name is Doctor Ava Paige. I'm Director of Operations of the World Catastrophe Killzone Department. If you're watching this, that means you've successfully completed the Maze Trials. I wish I could be there in person to congratulate you... but circumstances seem to have prevented it. I'm sure by now, you must all be very confused, angry, frightened. I can only assure you that everything that's happened to you, everything we've done to you, it was all done for a reason. You won't remember, but the sun has scorched our world. Billions of lives lost to fire, famine, suffering on a global scale. The fallout was unimaginable. What came after was worse. We called it the Flare, a deadly virus that attacks the brain. It is violent, unpredictable... incurable - or so we thought. In time, a new generation emerged that could survive the virus. Suddenly, there was a reason to hope for a cure, but finding it would not be easy. The young would have to be tested, even sacrificed, inside harsh environments, where their brain activity could be studied, all in an effort to understand what makes them different - what makes you different. You may not realize it, but you're very important. Unfortunately, your trials have only just begun. As you'll no doubt soon discover, not everyone agrees with our methods. Progress is slow, people are scared. It may be too late for us... for me... but not for you. The outside world awaits. Remember: Wicked is good.

Ava Paige: Well... I think it's safe to say the Maze Trials were a complete success. I wasn't expecting so many survivors, but... the more the merrier. Thomas continues to surprise and impress; and, for now, they seem to have taken the bait. It's too soon to say, but... they could be the key to everything. So let's move forward. It's time now to begin... Phase Two.
