I don't know why this show has such a low rating. My viewing experience should be at least seven or more. Although it seems that the special effects are a bit inferior now, in 2003, the special effects were quite awesome. Hulk singled out tanks in the desert, and fought against helicopters and fighters, all handled imaginatively but not too illusory.
In order to highlight the characteristics of the comics, Ang Lee used a lot of transitions to make the whole film more avant-garde. Many screen shots were designed to show the imprint of comics. All are quite interesting.
The whole plot is based on the emotional conflict between father and son, and the feelings between men and women are left aside, which may be the main reason why this film is not well received.
But the characterization of the father-son conflict is still quite in place, especially in the end when the father and son have a dialogue under the spotlight, bringing the conflict directly to the table. The sparring between the Hulk and the old father who had joined the assimilation elements was the best secret message for the confrontation and entanglement of the father-son relationship.
In the end, the surprising thing is that the heroine turned out to be Deborah, the young girl in "Once Upon a Time in America". Thinking about that Swan Lake, where bed bugs hid in the toilet for countless peeps, reappeared like a ghost after 20 years, it's really scary.
