From a neutral standpoint, the film shows sympathy for the victims and reflections on the cause of the pirates. After Captain Philip was taken hostage, he asked the pirates: "You must have other things besides fishing and kidnapping. Way of survival.” The pirate replied: “In the United States, maybe there is.” This conversation cleverly raised most people’s questions about the reasons for the existence of pirates, and also gave most people unexpected answers. Of course, pirates hijacked ships. It is for money, but for poor and backward Somalia, this kind of betting career is even more of an unchosen way of survival.
In the end, the film perfectly interprets the phrase in the American passport: "No matter where you are, the American government is your strong backing."
