First-class concept, third-class execution, embarrassing!

The first time I saw the introduction, this subject made my heart beat faster. The dissertation I wanted to write when I was a graduate student in the Netherlands was telepathy synaesthesia. Because synaesthesia is still completely at the stage of theory and conjecture, the paper is very difficult to write, so it was quickly abandoned. However, I have always maintained a strong interest in this field. Unfortunately, there are very few scientific studies and novels on this topic.

This script proposes a very interesting, and should be said, very American idea: personal heroism above all else. Using one person's consciousness to control everyone's consciousness and spread consciousness like a virus is actually the dream of the government, religions, pyramid schemes and all businesses. However, when this kind of dream succeeded in the movie, of course it caused great panic among human beings. No one can escape being controlled, but because we are brainwashed without realizing it, we have no resistance to that control. But when we learn of this powerful control, worship becomes fear. This is human nature. Humans are afraid of change, especially unknown change. Groups resist accepting anything they have not experienced. Putting aside Will's intentions in the movie is good or bad, if someone tries to turn humanity into a unified mind, the masses are dead and won't agree, because that changes the nature of humanity, even pushing humanity to a higher life level. Synesthesia is a common state of advanced life forms, as people currently know about extraterrestrials. In "Three-Body Problem", the "Zerg" of the three-body planet is also synaesthesia, similar to the concept of a bee colony; for the "Zerg", Earth people are real low-level unevolved bugs.

It is a pity that such a profound and connotative idea was turned into a tepid pseudo-3D movie by a very commercial and anticlimactic execution. If Nolan takes the shot, this will be an Inception, or even beyond.

Transcendence quotes

  • [from the trailer]

Will Caster: [Distraught] You've changed... have you fallen out of love with me?

    Evelyn Caster: [Reassuring] No

    Will Caster: [Demanding] Have You?

  • Will Caster: It just doesn't make sense. They're afraid of technology because of it's threat to humanity. Yet, they don't flinch at taking a life. So, obviously, they're not big on logic; but, there's no shortage of irony.
