Not only the westward journey, but the idea of nothing outside of the heart has always been taken seriously by Chinese Confucianists. The famous six groups of Zen Buddhism, Hui Neng, have a famous koan that "it's not the wind moving, not the flag moving, the benevolent is moved by himself". In fact, heaven and hell are often within a single thought. Good and evil people are often transformed into the surrounding scenery. This "Silent Hill" tells this story.
The story begins with a family of three in the United States. The adopted youngest daughter, Sharon, has been having nightmares and sleepwalking a lot lately, and in her dreams she shouts "Silent Hill" and "Go back". In order to cure her, her adoptive mother Ruth finds out that Silent Hill is a small town in West Virginia, close to the monastery where Sharon was adopted. So she ignored her husband's objections and took her daughter to Silent Hill.
As soon as she arrived at Silent Hill, Ruth was involved in a car accident. When she woke up from the coma, Sharon was gone. Sharon looked around and saw that the town was gray. Suddenly, a figure in purple clothes that looked like a daughter ran past from a distance. Ruth was about to go after her, but she met Sybil, the policewoman she met on the way. Sybil had dealt with a case of an adult killing a child in Silent Hill a few years ago. She suspected that Ruth was also such a criminal, so she handcuffed Ruth. Sybil just asked a few words when a monster without hands suddenly appeared. While Sybil was busy dealing with the monster, Ruth ran away to find her daughter.
In the process of searching, Ruth first met an old woman, Darlene. Darlene was insane and incoherent. Then, an air defense alarm sounded, the world was shrouded in darkness, and countless bloodthirsty monsters poured out from around. Ruth hid in hiding and nearly collapsed.
At the same time, Ruth's husband Chris also came to Silent Hill in order to find his wife and daughter. However, the Silent Hill in his eyes was shrouded in warm sunlight, just uninhabited. The nearby sheriff was very unwelcome to Chris, and although he felt as if Ruth was nearby, the sheriff chased him away.
On the other side, Ruth was chased by monsters and was almost in a desperate situation. Fortunately, Sybil came to rescue her. Ruth and Sybil meet some more residents of the town, and their leader is Sister Bella. The monster reappeared, the residents hid in the church with Ruth, and the monster stopped at the door of the church. Bella tells Ruth that her daughter can only be found if she sees the devil. Bella told Ruth the location of the devil, but her face changed suddenly when she saw the picture of Sharon. She told her subordinates that Sharon was the next possessed by the devil and asked her subordinates to catch Ruth. Sybil blocked them for Ruth, and she was caught and tied to a cross.
Ruth went to the devil's place alone, and finally met the girl in purple who had been leading her - she looked exactly like Sharon. The girl in purple told Ruth that the old woman she met before was named Darlene, and she gave birth to her illegitimate daughter, Aretha, 32 years ago. Sister Bella thought it was a symbol of the devil, so she condoned the school cleaners who raped Aresa and tried to burn her to death on a cross. The town's sheriff rescued Aretha, but she was burned beyond recognition. In the painful torture on the hospital bed, her fear and hatred were embodied as a girl in purple, and together they dragged Silent Hill into another dark dimension. This time and space is isolated from the real world. Aresa's hatred can be embodied as various monsters, and the residents of the town are all isolated in this horrible world because they participated in the abuse and burning of Aresa. As for Sharon, she was transformed by the kind side of Aresa's heart. She was sent back to the real world by the girl in purple to grow up. And when Sharon grew up, Aretha hoped that she could return to Silent Hill and combine her evil thoughts.
In order to retrieve her daughter, Aresa agreed to let the girl in purple possess her body, so that Aresa could use her body to enter the church that she could not enter, and take revenge on the town residents. After returning to the church, Bella, who had found Sharon, had just burned Sybil to death. After failing to argue with Ruth, she stabbed Ruth with a knife again. But the blood flowing out of Ruth's body summoned Aretha, who slaughtered all the townspeople, only Darlene was safe. Ruth told Darlene that although she also participated in the burning of her daughter, "in the eyes of the child, the mother is God."
At the end of the film, Ruth left Silent Hill with Sharon. But Sharon has now combined with Aresa's evil side, and she has pulled Ruth into the other-dimensional world wherever she goes. Although Ruth returned to her house, she was trapped in Silent Hill forever, and although she was so close to Chris, she could never see each other again.
The film is based on the famous game of the same name. Film and television works are easy to change into games, but the opposite attempts often fail. "Tekken" and "Resident Evil" are typical examples. This movie breaks through this limitation. Although the story has changed a bit compared to the game, the meaning and connotation are still profound. In fact, everything is worth the heart, sincerity, gold and stone are open, the words of the sages are always good.
At the end of the movie, Ruth once scolded Bella: "Everything you can't control, you just burn it to death!" Everyone has their own weaknesses, which are like monsters that they can't control, they are brave to face , or to escape with seemingly strong suppression, it is up to you. It's just that no matter where you go to the back, love is always hidden in everyone's Silent Hill. Even if you are as strong as Ruth.
