Thanksgiving held a special screening of "The Sound of Music" at the Musicbox Theater in Chicago. I wanted to revisit this classic, but I got an unexpected and super wonderful viewing experience. It's not so much a movie screening as a grand gathering of movie fans, and it's the first time in years that I've seen such a lively atmosphere in a movie theater, increasing the joy of this musical countless times!
This time, the people who come to watch this movie are usually dragging their families, old and young, with the whole family, which is quite in line with the festive atmosphere. Before the opening, there was still the host of the show. First, they sang a few famous songs from the movie. Everyone sang along with them. When singing "Do Re Mi", there were different gestures. The audience also waved their hands and made movements. Woke up. The theater will also distribute some props, and the host will explain what to wave and what lines to say in the classic clips. Then came the costume display of the live audience. The audience dressed up as the characters in the play appeared on the stage in turn. The protagonist Maria, the children, and the nuns felt full of love!
At the beginning of the feature film, Maria opened her mouth, and the theater immediately reverberated with the theme song "sound of music", and there were subtitles like KTV on the screen. The feeling of singing with so many people in the theater was unique. Therefore, every singing segment was followed by a chorus of applause, whistles and cheers, fully integrated into the world of music, a fiery atmosphere completely different from the usual cinema. A mother next to her brought two 5- and 6-year-old little girls, and they sang along with them word by word. The little girl would ask "Is that a bad guy?" from time to time, which is very cute. When the colonel played "Edelweiss", everyone took out little white flowers and waved them to the rhythm. The two old ladies in the front row were doing the movements very seriously, and it seemed that they were still enthusiastic after so many years. The most interesting thing is that the audience collectively reacted unanimously to the appearance of each character and the classic episodes: the teenager who had just started falling in love with Liesl made a "beep" sound as soon as he appeared in the audience, and later found out that he also joined the Nazis; For the baroness, it was a "hissing" snake, and when she finally decided to leave, someone shouted "get out of here!" and let out a long breath; for the Nazis, it was a muffled "Ou~Ou" in protest. ~" sound, the scene of the nun helping to escape, as expected, the audience cheered like thunder. In the end, when the Nazis searched the church with flashlights, some audience members used their mobile phones as flashlights to sweep in front of the screen, which was extremely joyful. At the climax of Colonel and Maria's kiss, the audience detonated all the shells in their hands, and the sound of thumping thumping resounded through the theater. Such a catharsis of group emotions makes the entire movie viewing event a celebration of collective memories for fans. It is also like this that the timeless classic of the musical "The Sound of Music" can still have such a huge appeal after nearly 50 years, bringing us endless dreamy enjoyment!
