Originally, The Lone Ranger had a budget of $275 million! Even if it is now down to the bottom line of $220 million that director Verbinski thinks, Disney still finds it unacceptable, mainly for several reasons:
1. The economic depression
2. All studios are cutting budgets to give those so-called "pillar movies" ( It's the kind of movie that is given a big budget, a good schedule, and a movie that has a good box office prospect) and is more careful when giving the green light.
3. Westerns tend to be mediocre overseas, and bad Westerns don’t work anywhere (Cowboys and Aliens is a prime example).
4. Due to the impact of digital download sites such as Netflix and Redbox, the once-broad DVD market has become increasingly poor.
Since the DVD market cannot be counted on, Disney is indeed taking a big risk in making such a blockbuster. But studios will always need this kind of "pillar movie," as well as talented actors and directors like Depp and Verbinski. It's hard to predict what the future of "The Lone Ranger" will be.
Director Verbinski and the loyal Depp
"The Lone Ranger" was first a radio show, born in the 1930s, and later adapted into various forms such as film, TV, comics, and novels. In the story, a team of Texas Rangers is ambushed by gangsters, and the protagonist John Reid is rescued by the Indian Tonto (Johnny Depp), who later transforms into a masked "lone man on a white horse". Mounted Police", brought all kinds of gangsters to justice and brought them to justice, and Tonto became the Lone Ranger's combat assistant when he was fighting for justice and eliminating violence.
