Only people who get healthy love and can give healthy love to others would see this as a comedy.
Come to think of it, what would have happened if Will hadn't met Max?
We're all Will, but neither of us will necessarily meet Max or even Rachel.
It's like Will telling Max to come on stage and sing doesn't help his mother to be happy, the loneliness is our own, and we have to come out on our own in the end.
Sometimes a person is ALONE, but not LONELY. There's nothing wrong with Will even being alone like that, it's just not that good.
