redemption and escape

A rare Mexican film, I like the quiet and distant feeling in the poster, but if I look closely, it is a running train. My intuition tells me that this film will be interesting, so I don’t think much about making it into the film. After watching it was not disappointed.

When the music at the end of the film played, I was still a little bit lost, and for a while I didn't know where to write this look and feel. Too much story information, but it came to an abrupt end with not the happiest ending. When hope becomes reality, there are gains and losses, bittersweet, and this can be called life.

The story told in the film is not complicated. Casper, who was in the gang, delayed the mission of the gang because he went to see his girlfriend. When he was punished, his girlfriend was accidentally killed by the boss of the gang. Kasper lost his lover and was hit hard. When the boss took him to "go on a mission" again, in order to save Sera, the stowaways who had been humiliated by the boss, Kaspayan killed his boss with a knife. Sierra lives on the run and promises to escort Sierra to the United States to be reunited with her half-family.
Gangs, organizations, smuggling, trains, borders... A series of elements intersect in this somewhat mysterious land of Mexico. In order to survive and have a better life, gangs and smuggling have become the two main living conditions of local young and middle-aged people. Escape from the existing poverty is the happiness of this group of people. But when the so-called protection and brotherhood of the gang were not as human as expected, and the title of "family" was just a cover, Casper reluctantly betrayed the gang and began his spiritual redemption. Casper's encounter with Serra is a turning point in the story and the beginning of the film's setting's search for a hopeful ending. The climax of the film is that the gang boy and the stowaways accompany from the encounter to the final painful farewell. For these two people who are the least recognized in the eyes of ordinary people, their endings are mostly doomed, but in the film their psychological and emotional exchanges have been pushed down to an important position, which is a very important event of humanistic care. good performance. It is what the film wants to convey to discover the simplest and purest aspects of the lives and emotions of marginalized people, and to seek self-redemption and liberation in difficult situations. The concept of family is infinitely enlarged in the film and becomes the most anticipated dream. Casper was unable to enjoy the warmth of home until his death, and his wish could only be fulfilled by Sera for him. When this instinctive desire for survival cannot be realized, it becomes the biggest tragedy. There are no tears in the eyes, but the heart has become a river. The film very accurately expresses the real tragedy in this regional and social background, and triggers various reflections.

The film is always interspersed with a series of upbeat background music, symbolizing the bright prospect of a certain marginal person looking for hope in redemption. Whenever the music sounds, it seems to inject some warm energy into the helpless and sad plot, indicating that the beginning of happiness is not far away. The film has a strong sense of picture, the lens expression is very delicate, and some subtle emotional changes are displayed on those frozen pictures, so that people can always see the beauty that was lost.

Looking for hope in the lost, looking for redemption in the downfall, there may only be one way out, but the heart will be warm.

  • Sayra: Back home, my friend Clarissa made me see this crazy neighbor, Doña Eleanor, you know, like witchcraft? She smoked this puro, then told me with her freaky voice that I'd make it to the U.S. but not in God's hand, perhaps in the Devil's.
