Mystic River

I just finished watching "Mystic River" and I feel a little depressed. Although Eastwood finally showed me a sunny parade, two happy families regaining their positions, but the unfinished name on the concrete floor and the mysterious river surging by the rapids make people unforgettable. The fearful eyes and the lingering shadow of childhood in a family.
Dave, yes, it's him. Folded eyebrows, worried eyes, awkward behavior. Hesitate, trance, miserable. As he himself said, the former Dave was dead, he died the moment he was taken away by the car. It was another person who escaped, with humiliating scars from the moment he existed, and his entire face filled with suspicion and fear.
Permanent, yeah. Permanently inscribed. Desperate. Incurable. I
don’t want to comment too much on fate . The calmness and smile after the tragedy may be just helpless resistance to irreversible actions.

At the end, Dave's son was sitting on the parade float with a lonely look, while Jimmy and Sean each took care of their wives and daughters. The generation of fathers was born because Dave got in the car, which led to a very different life afterwards, and it was a similar reincarnation when it came to the generation of sons. The crying scene of Sean Penn was impressive.

It is rare to see a movie with such a clear main line, which can accommodate so many people's thoughts and so many kinds of emotions. These thoughts and emotions are intense, but they do not conflict at all. It is really wonderful.

Mystic River quotes

  • Annabeth Markum: Celeste called looking for you. She was worried something might happen. She told me about Dave. Told me what she told you. What kind of wive says those things about her husband? And why'd she run to you?

Jimmy Markum: Why did not you call?

Annabeth Markum: Because it's like I told the girls. Their daddy is a king. And a king knows what to do and does it.

  • Jimmy Markum: This part... you do alone.
