Black and white silent film a successful counterattack

This modern black and white silent film has to admit that it was a successful counterattack, sweeping five Oscars and putting other color and sound films to shame.
Despite the judges' suspicions of collective nostalgia, the movie still wins by plot. It condenses the movie from silent to sound, a movie star from infinite scenery to lonely and decadent, and his former movie fans, but from nobody to call the wind and call the rain. The vicissitudes of life become simple and touching in black and white film.

  • Al Zimmer: Perfect! Beautiful! Could you give me just one more?

    George Valentin: With pleasure.
