Wizardry VS Magical Wicked Witch

Before watching "The Wizard of Oz", I didn't have much hope for innovation in this fairy tale adaptation produced by Disney. The plot of the story is quite satisfactory. After Mila turns into a classic evil witch, the direction of the plot is completely predictable, and the final ending is the foreshadowing of the original "Wizard of Oz".
The reason why I wrote this article is because I watched another musical "Wicked" (Wicked), which is also based on the story of the "Wizard of Oz" world view, and the two are also prequel stories (although Wicked's second The beginning of the act overlaps with the original story), but the difference between the two is far from the same.

Wizard VS Wizard

The wizard image in "The Wizard of Wonderland" should be a typical Disney fairy tale hero image: handsome, smart, with various small shortcomings, but the general direction is absolutely correct, just and optimistic. , I know myself on the journey, and finally return to the beauty.
The role of the wizard in "Wicked" is a 180-degree reversal - a conspirator with great political ambitions, unscrupulous to achieve his goals, and hidden behind his "great" reputation of far-flung oceans is a naked revolt against power For his pursuit, everyone else is a pawn to him, and he uses various words to justify his actions (Note 1).
Compared with this, the fairy tale taste of "The Wizard of the Devil" can't be better, isn't it? But the wizard in "Wicked" is full of metaphors for people in the real world and society. He has a line in the play that is "If you don't create an enemy for your people, how can you unite them? Get up and stand for your rule?" Does that sound familiar?

Good Witch VS Good Witch

Glinda in "The Wizarding World" still follows the classic style of various princesses. It is difficult to get rid of this stereotyped character design because this trick is really tried-and-true, and there is not much surprise, but it will not offend most people Hate, can control the risk very well.
Glinda in "Wicked" has a much richer character in comparison. When the bad witch and Glinda first met, they used one word to describe her: Blonde (Note 2) But if I label Glinda in the play, it is actually There will be many, from the beginning of the heartthrob, nympho, helpful, and more or less hypocritical (Note 3), to the latter, forbearance, forced laughter, emphasis on love and justice, and adherence to true justice.
What the two Glindas have in common is probably kindness (although Glinda in "Wicked" hides his inner kindness deeper), and in other respects, the latter's character is more three-dimensional and full.

Bad Witch VS Bad Witch

The bad witch in "The Wizard of Magic" actually makes me feel very abusive. I don't know why the screenwriter gave her such a tortuous transformation. The complete reversal of the character before and after the transformation makes me feel like I'm watching two It is an independent character, and it is difficult to connect the two. It can only be understood that another personality completely devoured the original personality, and this continued until the end of the film. In the original book, the bad witch is a complete villain who doesn't even have a name. In this way, the originally kind witch played by Mila basically disappears. To a certain extent, this setting makes me feel very abrupt. The original personality of a main character will disappear in the middle of the story, and will never appear again. It feels like a novel to me. Halfway through, you can't find it again.
In contrast, the setting of the bad witch in "Wicked" is much more reasonable (after all, she is the protagonist of the whole play), her green appearance is set as her innate physique, and she seems to be living with her for the first half of her life. This God-given misfortune struggles (why do I think of Tyrion in Ice and Fire when I write here?), this physique gives her a tough, straightforward character, but her heart is the same as all normal growth people, Naive and kind. Moreover, she accepts the unfortunate facts quite calmly, is still full of optimistic vision and yearning for the future (Note 4), and silently expresses her thirst for love (Note 5). But the most outstanding part of her is her determination not to be afraid of power, to adhere to her own moral standards, and to be unwilling to be manipulated by others and not want to join forces with the wicked. At the end of "The Wizard of Oz", the bad witch yelled "I defying you" to the wizard, and I smiled knowingly when I saw it. This is probably the director's tribute to the musical "Wicked").
The bad witch in the two stories has different names. It is called Theodora in "The Wizard of Hell" and Elphaba in "Wicked". In fact, this should probably be blamed on the original author, Lyman Frank Baum, because the bad witch in the original book has no name. Yes, only the title "The Wicked Witch of the West" (Voldemort burst into tears). So after the copyright was released, the person who created the prequel to this story was the only one who named the bad witch himself. Speaking of which, the name Elphaba is actually created from the abbreviation LFB of the original author's name.

In general, the overall style and feel of "Wicked" is closer to the original, that is, a fairy tale for children, while "Wicked" is more like a fairy tale for adults. The content of the story "Wicked" is much fuller, and "Wicked" is slightly thin. In fact, there is a lot of room for children's fairy tales, but it is true that not every Disney film can reach the height of "The Lion King". In terms of artistic expression, the differences between movies and musicals are quite obvious, and there is not much comparability. It can only be said that "Wicked" may leave more valuable legacy, otherwise it will not be included in "Glee". Bar.

I didn't finish it, so I couldn't help but leave.

Alas, Oz was photographed as Orz of Mila Kunis. Sam Remy's scary skills are still there, but I really didn't expect that I would miss "Alice in Wonderland" one day.
