Quinceañera (2006)
The film won the 2006 22nd Sundance Film Festival Jury Prize for Best Film.
The film tells the story of two young people growing up. The heroine is a high school student who is about to have a coming-of-age ceremony. However, the heroine gradually gained weight. Later, the heroine takes a pregnancy test accompanied by her mother and finds out that she is a virgin but pregnant. For this reason, the missionary's father was furious, and the heroine had to run away from home to live with her uncle. At this time, the older brother, who was kicked out as a homosexual, also lived in his uncle's house, and the three of them lived like this. Afterwards, the heroine went to the hospital for consultation before she knew why she was pregnant and told her boyfriend. Knowing that the child is his, the boyfriend intends to take responsibility, but his mother stops him and tells him to leave the city. The heroine is very sad when she finds out that she will never see her boyfriend again. At the same time, the brother and the man of one of the landlords were found cheating by another person, and the two quarreled. After that, the landlords passed the court to let the uncle who has lived here for many years move, which made all three very sad. A few days later, after taking revenge on the landlord, the brother decided to find a good job to help the heroine and uncle earn money to support the family. But a few days later, the uncle died at home, while the heroine's father forgave the heroine. In the end, the heroine, her brother and other companions happily went to the heroine's adult-style.
This film is a relatively simple and relaxed film. It shows the growth process of two young people through the experience of two young people. It is a very stereotyped Hollywood film. The theme of the film is very simple, that is, the growth brought about by "responsibility", "pain", "frustration", etc. I believe only those who have experienced these experiences will understand, so I won't say much.
But I still want to mention the "virgin pregnancy" plot in the film, which is completely a gimmick in my opinion. It exists only to attract viewers - virgins are pregnant too, what a fascination! Hey, it's just that even if there is a scientific basis, such a plot is too magical, after all, the probability of a virgin pregnancy is still very small.
There is nothing to say about the filming, which is quite satisfactory. Also, it's hard to feel that this is an American movie through the footage, it looks exactly like a movie from a Latino country. It seems that not only Chinese have their own circles abroad, but also Latinos.
The actors in this film are unknown, and the Latino girls are very tender and look immature at all. But from what I understand, Latino women generally become sexy in their twenties, so now they're just "not growing". I'm not interested in men, so I don't know how sexy the lead actor Chalo González is, so I'll leave that to gays to comment.
in conclusion. It's a mainstream, stereotyped Hollywood movie that, despite being an indie, doesn't feel anything unique.
