As the film continues to develop, the plot becomes clearer and clearer, and I expect the director to surprise me with a plot that I hadn't guessed. For example, black security guards do not exist, and they are also Mott's avatars.

First of all, let's talk about how Short was split in the movie (of course, this has been clearly introduced in the plot)
Short's hat is his symbol. The hat was bought by Mott at a flea market with his ex-wife. Mott picked up his hat and joked that he was a Mississippi dairy farmer. This planted the seeds for Short's life experience.
The Secret Window is a 1994 novel by Mott that was inspired by a hidden window an ex-wife discovered behind a cupboard in their house, overlooking a small plot of land outside. The ex-wife joked that I will make a small garden below, so that I can enjoy the secret garden from the secret window. Based on this small clip, Mott wrote a novel called The Secret Window. The story is about a man who murdered his wife and buried her in a secret garden.
After getting along with his wife for more than ten years, the relationship between the two gradually declined. Finally one day, Mott caught his wife in bed in a motel. The angry Mott was extremely out of control, and his mind was full of thoughts of shoot her, shoot her. Mott raised his gun and aimed at the man and woman who were cheating in front of him. But under the control of reason, he refrained, and the gun was not loaded.
This incident was the trigger for Short's appearance. With the breakdown of the relationship, the divorce of husband and wife and other pressures, Mott's mind is more and more unable to withstand and cope with the blow he has received. Coupled with the subconscious desire to kill his wife, this personality named Short finally appeared.
Noticing the later part of the movie, the ex-wife came to Mott's house to find him, and the words "shooter (Short) shooter shooter" were engraved all over the house. But in the last shot when Mott emerges from behind the door with his hat on, it says shoot her on the wall behind him! The pronunciation of shooter and shoot her is the same in English.
So this explains why the split personality is called Short, and why Short has been rewriting the ending of the secret window.
For a 2004 DID movie, there's really nothing wrong with being picky. But I have to complain that the sheriff in the movie is really weak. Especially at the end of the movie, the plot to persuade Mott to leave is simply incompetent. . . Oops
