Cloud Illustrated Dream

* Artistic value

"Cloud Picture" is a revolution in film art. Its meaning is similar to the appearance of cubism in painting. Before this, people had never imagined that unrelated objects from different angles could be combined and expressed in a single painting, but the same theme could be projected in the eyes of the viewer.

Yuntu is exactly like this, breaking each of the six completely independent stories into dozens of fragments, and then re-splicing them to organize the material based on the emotions and thoughts projected by the audience on the fragments. Therefore, although the stories are complicated and complex, It is difficult for the audience to restore the plot, but the emotions that arise with the development of the film are consistent and not chaotic. Moreover, the audience's attention was focused on the plot, which lowered their emotional alertness and became more susceptible to infection.

Just like looking at Picasso’s masterpiece Guernica reflecting the Nazi brutality, the most painful front, side and back of men and women and livestock are all interspersed in one picture. In the picture, the most important elements of traditional painting, such as spatial relations, color, and structure, are all covered. neglect. And the more you look for these elements in the picture, and the more you try to reconstruct the objective world in line with your cognition, the more you are shocked by the huge pain in the picture.

Art arises from human feelings and acts on human feelings. Qualified art reproduces human feeling, excellent art expands human feeling, and great art extends the dimension of feeling. To paint an old woman, you can see how old she is, and it is qualified; paint an old woman, you can see the enchanting demeanor of her youth, is excellent; paint an old woman, you can see how she has been Enchanting and enchanting, it is great.

Humans are three-dimensional creatures. We can perceive the existence of space and move freely in space, but humans have no freedom in the dimension of time. We cannot re-experience the past, nor can we experience the future in advance. Even changing the speed of time passing a little bit requires tremendous energy that we cannot imagine.

Movie is a projection over time, the art of two-dimensional plane plus one-dimensional time. Different from other art forms, movies have conditions to influence people's feelings about the time dimension. Major breakthroughs unique to the art of film are all here to make a fuss. In the movies before Yuntu, the exploration in the time dimension does not change the linear nature of time. What it does is to lengthen and shorten the line of time, cut and reorganize, or twist it around. "Cloud Atlas" is not the case. It breaks the linear nature of time by parallelizing several story lines that span the grand scale. Just as infinitely dividing and bending a straight line can create a fractal between one and two dimensions, the breakthrough artistic technique of "Cloud Map" gives the audience a feeling of breaking through the constraints of linear time, echoing the pursuit of freedom of expression in the film. The most obvious topic on the first floor.

* The story

Cameron said that the director cannot pursue innovation in several aspects at the same time in a movie, so that the audience cannot accept it.

Film is an art of industrialization. It is the finished product of an entire industrial chain. Most links in this chain are connected by money. Movies that are unacceptable to the audience are those that have failed at the box office, or that cannot find investors.

As an independent film with the highest investment in history, since it has made such a huge breakthrough in structure, "Cloud Map" must limit the complexity of the story and characters, otherwise contemporary audiences will not be able to appreciate it at all, and it will not be available to investors at the box office. Confess. Therefore, the six stories in the play have all made considerable simplifications on the basis of the original work. The basic plot is as follows:

>>>>>>>>>>>> The following spoilers <<<<<<<<<< <<

Story 1: In 1849, a San Francisco lawyer rescued an aboriginal on a return journey from the South Pacific. Later, he was killed by a doctor on the ship during the journey, and the native was rescued and spared.

Story 2: In 1936, Edinburgh, Scotland, a young gay musician's work while working for a famous musician was taken over by the latter's tricks. The young man tried to leave and independently completed his masterpiece "Yuntu Sixtet". When the old musician blocked him, he had a dispute and was killed by him. Later, the young man completed the "Yuntu Sixtet" while on the run, and then committed suicide. During this period, the young man read the travel diary of the lawyer in the first story.

Story 3: In 1975, in San Francisco, California, a black female journalist tried to expose a large company's nuclear power plant safety hazards, but found that the insider died accidentally and she was repeatedly in danger. Later, he finally got rid of the clutches of the company and revealed the truth. During this period, the female reporter discovered the letter written by the young musician in the second story to the same-sex lover (the latter was the nuclear power plant scientist who first provided clues to the reporter), and heard the "Sixtet of Cloud Atlas".

Story 4: In 2012, a publisher hid in a nursing home to avoid blackmail by gangsters, but found that the treatment in it was extremely poor and there was no freedom, so he planned with a few residents and successfully escaped from the nursing home. During this period, the publisher has been reading a manuscript based on Story Three.

Story 5: In 2144, in New Seoul, South Korea, a female clone slave gained self-awareness with the help of an underground resistance organization and broadcasted it to the world, calling on clones to rise up against this unequal system. During this period, the female clone saw a movie made by the publisher in Story 4 based on her experience of escaping from a nursing home.

Story 6: 106 years (2321) after the collapse of human civilization, a primitive tribe resident led a surviving visitor with advanced technology to the top of the mountain to find the remains of the observatory in order to get in touch with the people on earth who moved to other planets. These primitive residents believe in the gospel of the only true god "Star Beauty". "Xingmei" is the female clone in story five, and her gospel comes from her broadcast to the world that year.

* Subject

life is not equal. Inequality in skin color (story 1), inequality in social status (story 2), inequality in money and power (story 3 and 4), genetic inequality (story 5), inequality in technology and violence (story six).

At any time, there is always some kind of inequality. At any time, the vast majority of people agree and maintain this inequality. At any time, there are always very few people who want to break this inequality. They succeed occasionally, often fail, and can never stop the creation of new inequality. Human evil is born out of inequality. Inequality is widespread and lasting, and the evils of human nature are also widespread and lasting.

But there is always a weak desire to pursue equality, and the desire to pursue equality produces seeds of good, and the seeds of good take root and pass on in a way that we cannot predict. It is a diary, a letter, a music, a novel, a movie, and a radio. It is the record of the common people that conveys the seeds of good. The inheritance of goodness is inexhaustible, and it is the only reliable force for mankind to fight against the inextricable evil in the unforeseen future.

Obviously, an arrangement, our contemporaneous story four, is the most trivial of all the stories. There is neither an entire civilization to be saved, nor an oppressed people to be awakened, and no one has ever died. Why are the stories of our time so trivial as the gossip of aunts when they buy groceries in a Chinese supermarket? It is to remind people that the little things we do right now that seem trivial are the seeds of the goodness of the predecessors and the seeds of the goodness left for future generations. And the human civilization will not be passed down, and what ultimately depends on is the accumulation of a little bit of goodness at the moment.

Disclaimer: Guan Jiu has the virtue of metaphors for the concubine. There are a thousand Hamlet in the eyes of a thousand audiences. The theme I see may not be the theme that the author and director want to express, let alone the theme you see.
