At the end of the film, Ripley and Petter travel, but on the boat they meet Meredith who thinks he is Dick. According to the previous way, Ripley should kill Meredith, so that no one will know anymore. He used to pretend to be Dick, so he could use Ripley's identity with Petter, who loved him so much.
But if you don't kill Meredith, why kill Petter? Killing Petter is useless. In Petter's eyes, he is a completely innocent Ripley.
Ripley can no longer be Dick, Dick has committed suicide, if Dick didn't commit suicide and then ran out to kill, this lot of trouble could not help but come back. As handsome as Alain Delon, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't play Ripley's inherent inferiority complex, so the grassroots Matt Damon was more credible. In the end, sitting alone in the cruise ship cabin, he escaped. Punishment, but everything is lost; Minghella's golden age of learning looks like a cross between Hitchcock and Nicholas Ray.
