not a movie at all

In my opinion, almost all of Kurosawa's works can be seen as his attempt to substitute the Japanese theater tradition into the "movie" that represents modern art.
It's just that in his early works, "tradition" accounted for a larger proportion, such as this "Tiger's Tail を Step む Nanda".
The performances of the participating actors are all great, (personally, I admire Fujita Shin who plays the porter the most). I believe that if they were put on the stage of "Japanese opera", they would be very successful actors. (Like our Guo Degang [laughs]).
Final conclusion: it is a perfect stage play in the style of traditional "Japanese opera".
