Ice Age 4's journey to find its own answers is full of spoilers

Putting aside the popcorn-style entertainment, Hollywood animation movies are all connected with simple and warm truths in complex narrative plots. Whether it's the Chinese-style "Kung Fu Panda" or "Madagascar", behind these cartoons is a microcosm of an aspect of the American spirit.

The Ice Age series is a work that has lasted for ten years. Although each of them is handed down in the same vein, it also strives to reproduce the understanding of beautiful things in our hearts in the reconstructed world from four different perspectives.

As its opening title, Ice Age 1 unites three protagonists with completely different personalities. This part may answer the question of the sublation of the old and the new and mutual trust. Mammoths, saber-toothed tigers, and sloths left their original lives and formed a mobile family. Ice Age 2 may answer love. At the end of the wandering of the three adventurers, it is a happy and warm home where they can feel the warmth. And the third is more like a fairy tale, escaping the ice age to build a fantastical adventure that brings the trilogy to a halt.

But the needs of the audience and fans led to the appearance of the fourth commercial film. In this part, the main characters have been portrayed very vividly, and the relationship between the characters is also explained very clearly. Therefore, in addition to the appearance of a large number of new characters, it is more about the inner self-examination of the three protagonists.

1. Manny (mammoth) - Key words: Faith It is

not so much Manny's love for his family as to explain his insistence on this love. As the leader of the small team, Manny plays a central role in each of the "leaders, mainstays". Manny is a true leader, which makes him have absolute faith in the trust of the team and the responsibility of the family. In other words, belief also makes him rightfully the core.

In the second and third episodes, Manny's plot became the main line. He experienced the sacrifice of love and the tempering of going deep into the dinosaur's lair to find his lover and children. So at the beginning of the fourth episode, he has completed the sublimation of his character: unwavering belief.

This allows him to have no contradictions in this part, or that he does not need to change. At the same time, there are not too many metaphors for the villain of the chimpanzee, which just reduces the lack of stamina in the battle between the middle and the pirates, and there are only gorgeous action scenes. Let me read only "high", but don't understand "why"

2. Diego (saber-toothed tiger) - key words: Mirror

Diego has been completed since the first part abandoned his tribe and inner "evil" the process of sublation. So he doesn't need to experience abandonment and denial, but unlike Manny, the "non-evil" represented by Diego has not found a place to settle down. Although the second and third films have built a "home" for us, with more and more members, for Diego, there is only warmth here, and it may not be a place where you really feel yourself.

So the appearance of the white saber-toothed tiger surprised Diego. The feeling of "same race" he felt was the first time he felt it when he left the tribe. So when someone sees the love between two tigers, it's just that they misunderstand this family feeling as love. Diego tried his best to help the white tiger MM get out of the life of a pirate, in fact, it was a process of helping his own race sublime.

Maybe they will fall in love in the fifth, but it's too early. In this part, Diego saw more of himself on the White Tiger MM.

3. Sid (sloth)——Keywords:

I confessed Sid's life experience at the beginning of this episode and was abandoned by the family. This instantly turned the heady comedy character of the first three films into a tragic personification—a man who wasn't part of his family. Sid's grandma, who is also not accommodated, can also see the figure of this sloth, which makes the logic of family inheritance in the plot connect. It also makes this tragic color into a double.

So this also explains why Sid is cynical, and why he has a casual personality. Because maybe cynicism can get him out of the shadow of being abandoned and forget about it for a while.

And in this episode, Sid's grandma's almost neurotic paranoia saves everyone from danger. Also because of this opportunity, Sid was finally recognized by everyone. Indeed, his dull-witted personality and cynical attitude have not changed much. It is also Sid, what he changed is that he really affirmed himself, or got rid of the family's negation of him.

It's that sentence, "You are always yourself, the best version of yourself." So Sid's sublimation doesn't seem to be there, but it's like reborn.

Summary: So the whole play ended in the happy "We are family", a complete family may not be far away from us. But success is also Xiao He, and defeat is also Xiao He. Too many dark lines make the 90-minute time seem tight, and it also makes the penetration of the whole drama insufficient. Maybe it's a little pity for this one.

Ice Age: Continental Drift quotes

  • Diego: [Roars] Yeah, you don't scare me mother nature! There's nothing you can throw at me that I can't handle.

    [Hears whooping]

    Diego: Huh?

[Gets hit by log being driven by sloths]

Eunice: I think we're almost there!

Milton: We'd better be! I just lost the steering!

Granny: Has anyone seen Precious? It's her feeding time.

Marshall: Mom! Granny's talking about her dead pet again.

Uncle Fungus: Hey, paws up, everybody!

Marshall: Paws down, Uncle, please! That is nasty.

    Uncle Fungus: Whoo-hoo!

Eunice: Be careful, Milton, you're gonna hurt somebody!

    [Diego tries to reach safety]

    Eunice: Aah! Bad kitty!

    Marshall: Rock!

Granny: [Diego flies into Granny] Whoo!

Diego: [When log has finally stopped] That was fun. Now, who should I eat first?

  • Sid: Mom, Dad, do you have Granny's teeth? She can't find them.

Granny: [Tries eating apple then tries to give to Sid] Hey! Can you chew this thing for me?

Sid: Ew, Guys? Where is everyone?

Diego: I'll handle this. Sid? Uh, your family was wiped out by an asteroid. Sorry.

    Sid: What?

Manny: What Diego is trying to say is, they left. They only wanted to find you so you could take care of Granny.

Sid: Oh, come on, what kind of sick family would ditch their own Granny on someone? That's just crazy. That's just... That's just... my family.

Diego: At least you still have Granny. Right, buddy?

    Sid: Yeah, Granny. Granny? Granny?

Ellie: Wow. For an old girl, she moves fast.
