True, I would say. In this movie, I like tim burton, I like johnny depp, like eva green, like michelle pfeiffer, like chloe moretz. But I can't even like this movie, let alone think it's a good movie. The familiar gothic style is still there, the beautiful women are still there, the handsome and cute depp are still there, and the exquisite scenery is still there, but it still makes people feel that something is missing. Think about it, let's call it a soul. This is a movie without a soul, in which you can find all the elements of the most hits now, witches, vampires, ghosts, werewolves, but to sum up there is only one sentence, the bloody case caused by a love triangle. In fact, many movies use special effects and fantasy as shells, wrapping the most common and bloody emotional stories. But as long as the story is really moving and beautiful, it's a good movie. Like Edward Scissorhands, which is also the best movie I think the two of them have worked on together. Unfortunately, this story is not moving. What's more, the other heroine of the love triangle has no sense of existence compared to Eva. When she finally lay in depp's arms, I had the urge to laugh. Could it be that a movie adapted from a bubble TV series is also destined to bubble? I don't know why tim burton chose this TV series for the adaptation at that time, did he just think the tone of it suits his appetite?
What does he want to express, what does he want to do? Or maybe since Alice, he has fallen into an adaptation trap and can't come out again. In fact, the disappointment with him started from Alice.
Of course, I still have to say that I don't regret watching this movie, because for me it's nice to see someone weirdly cute. What's more, tim burton is still attentive. The United States in the 1970s, under his depiction, is very vivid. Big sunglasses, flared pants, printed shirts, extravagant, decadent, confused, and at the same time actively changing, young people who yearn for a new life. And, most importantly, Carpenter, who is so moving when you think about it.
