Tyler, the boy whose whole life is a letter to God, writes constantly to God. He has ever said to his brother,"Writing a letter to God just like texting to your friend." He put the letters in the mailbox waiting for postman to pick them up. The Old Postman said, "It's like finding a kitten on your back porch. You can't just walk away." It exactly describes the feeling when look at those childish handwritten letters. My favorite episode is when Dedushka talks to Tyler and Sam. Just like he says, Tyler has been handpicked by God as a warrior. The film doesn't focus on how Tyler struggles with the tumour, it just tells us the daily life of a boy, suffering from some indisposition now and then, who loves to write to letters to God to tell Him everything happened in his life, every thread of his feelings. But we all can feel the strength from Ty, bit by bit. It settles me down when listening to Tyler's letters, don't know why , like magic.
It's just been way too much for Ben too. He is still a kid, in his adolescence. He wants to be cared for too, not all the things going on around Ty. He is actually a contradiction himself. Caring for his brother but wanting to draw some attention at the same time. Well, it's just that easy to give nearly everything of yours to another person, even he is your brother. All in all, Ben is a great brother.
Another pointing moving is how great the love of a mother can be. Some may think Maddy is the backbone of the whole family, she has set it up. I, however, do appreciate Granna. She is the crutch to Maddy. She cares about Ben when Maddy can't manage this, trying to make Ben happy and sweep away his resentment. She console Maddy when she feels blowed up. She is the neurolept for the family just like a Mrs.Reverend. Feeling reassuring when being around her.
The film gives people a sense of fresh and warm, I think it's partly because there are not only one wise and comforting characters, Granna, Mr. Perryfield, the pastor Andy, the bartender, Brandy's boss...all these people are impressive. The prays in the film are really comforting. They can pacificate your soul, no matter you are a Christian or not.
Something worth a try: When you are a mess and feeling unable to grab anything. Hold out your hands, now put them together, interwine your fingers. Now nothing can slip through.
