Democratic political systems, as well as other systems based on democratic ideas, often consider issues from a hypothetical standpoint. Taking the judicial system as an example, why the criminal procedure system of a democratic country defends the interests of the defense so much is based on "one day, any one of you or me may stand in the dock, and may even be the system designer, DA, is your honor" assumption. For their own interests, and for weak individuals to withstand the power of the powerful state apparatus, the system is bound to be designed to be more biased towards the defense.
The premise of the assumption of democratic political system is more macroscopic and more profound. It is assumed that all powers will expand, so we can only rely on the system to limit powers. Even if the centralization of power will play a greater role in the hands of some good public officials, it cannot always guarantee the loyalty and integrity of public officials.
(There is one point that can be mentioned. Many theories believe that the nature of power is inflation, so there is no need to assume it. This view may have its origins in religious ideas such as "evil sex theory" and "original sin". I think it is very interesting.)
Of course , many problems have emerged under the democratic system, such as the maintenance of collective interests, money kidnapping politics and so on. Therefore, there has never been any ism, and there is no need to put a flashing label of morality on any system. Nothing is always right, only the eternal balance of interests.
